For some reason VCD stopped working on my vista machine. Since then i've uninstalled and installed it and nothing happened. The last time i tried before re-installing it i went to my device manager and noticed that under "storage controllers" there was a "virtual clone drive" entry with a "!" mark. I uninstalled that entry, exited out of the device manager then ran the VCD instalation program and it worked!
