I dont get this.
Everyone is ripping HD-DVD when there is no HD-DVD burners.
And even when they are released, all the movies are on double layer discs which wont be available in recordable media for a very long time.
Blu-ray burners are already out, and i have one.
Blu-ray movies are mostly on single layer discs.
This should make blu-ray the easiest format to copy?
I want to watch movies on my HDTV not on my PC
If the end result is not something i can burn on a disc and play on my stand alone hd dvd/bluray player. its useless.

Quit with the posts about bluray already. There are several posts about this topic. It will come in time if it doesn't fail like every other Sony proprietary format.

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Images/Uploaded/Verbatim_logo.gif A new recording dye based on proven AZO-Technology specially designed for HD DVD-R allows Verbatim to achieve optimum data writing quality, minimising the thermal interference between data marks which is a key performance parameter as the data density of HD DVD is over 3.5 times higher than that of standard DVD.
Verbatim proved the media's high read/write compatibility in numerous tests with the latest HD DVD burners and players. Movie fans can immediately enjoy the sharp images high definition technology provides.
I do not think Verbatim would be making recordables discs if the burners were very far behind.
Dual Layer HD DVD-R media with a capacity of 30GB will be available in February.

I cannot make that assumption since I never experienced it yet, but I do know that HP is selling computers with HD recordable drives . beta maxx should of won but its the same thing over (dumb people dont know which formate is better) the avg or less avg joe would assume hd dvd is better because "HD" is HIGH DEFINATION and blue ray might not ... lol i'v herad that one before...
i stronglly think blue ray should be the clear winner here more space = less conpression = better quality disc , even if hd dvd does have good video coding the less conpression the better the quality is thats plain simple
now back to the other reason why hd dvd wants or atlest getting the edge is because some support it more ( ie porn indistrys) are support hd or maybe hd is paying them not to touch blue ray who knows ...
BOTTOM LINE : i think both blue ray and hd should be combied so hd dvd can learn from blue ray advantages and blue ray can learn to better code their movies ... blue ray has more advantages then hd right now , harder to copy disc more compacity and other things that hd doesnt and i cant tihnk of many now

If you cant think of one ill give you one.....Blue-Ray=Sony=Garbage
The more you support these people the more you allow them to walk all over youre rights.Sony does nothing more than try to push their propierty garbage on all of us and its time for it to stop.Wouls be really nice to see Sony loose this one. They say that Blue-Ray out sells HD thats bs and their relaying on their PS3 which has ok sales in japan but is not doing well in the US.

I wont buy Sony period.Like i said if you look at their products they always lock consumers in to their propierty hardware which means you have to buy more Sony products. Also Sony has always banked on the Sony name but their products are not even close to being superior over other companies like Toshiba.Sony is trying to lock the comsumer down more than HD and is trying to decide for you what you can do with youre purchased media. As long as people support them there always going to be able to get away with what their doing and i wont give them a cent to justify their cause.

I've seen this topic (HD vs BR) turn into huge flame wars in other forums. State your points with factual information please. This is general warning (not aimed at anyone in particular): I will not allow this thread to turn into a fanboy vs fanboy flamewar. :policeman:

You don't sound credible when you don't even know how to spell the format properly.

"While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters."

And the next time you don't like what someone posts, pm me instead of posting this: "Quit with the posts about bluray already"
Consider this a warning. :policeman:
If you want to debate, fine. Debate the points raised--and not the user's capacity to spell properly. Thank you

No problem. I know that this (BR vs HD) is a very touchy subject, and a lot of people get very angry and upset over it.
Now how about a nice conversation of religion and politics instead? /ducks

Because Sony has shown time and again, that it will screw end-consumers in order to get a "leg up" on anyone and everything. It truly deserves to lose the HD format war.

Usually the one who is first in the market has at least an advantage from the beginning. And I see everywhere blue-ray writers but no HD-DVD writer yet.
However, I am quite sure, that in the end both formats will co-exist, similar to the DVD-R / DVD+R "fight". In the end all drives will read/write both formats and everyone is happy. Just wait a bit, at the moment it's anyway too expensive (> 650 € for a bluy-ray drive)

And so is a 200 GB Blue Ray Disc, as for me I could care less right now about either format since they have to make upgrades every week to fix faults in their programs, gee shades of Microsoft Windows is it not, but I would like to see both formats work together and make one system using both formats so we all can act civilized. I have no desire to buy any HD or BR dvds since I have a rather large collection of DVD's now. To me it just means another way for the studio's to push the same movie to you again at three times the price. So I for one will just sit back and watch the who flung pooh continue. Just remember, Porno killed Beta, not VHS, it was porno's choice of format. As for sales, maybe you should read the latest on both formats at the Nielson Reports, you will be in for a big surprise as to which format is really winning the war. Cheers Mates

Blu-Ray is obviously the clear winner in this race and has statistically beat HD-DVD in every category including retail sales. Don't be a sore loser.
blu-ray support should most definately be in AnyDVD before HD. It deosn't make any sense to me to even add HD support. I'll bet the free rip software will have it before ANyDVD does.

Most people don't even know what HD-DVD or Blu-Ray is yet. Wait until they become the standard for movies, in about a year or two.

If you think that HD-DVD and Blu-Ray at this time are no Standards you are totally uninformed.
Both are accepted Standards by the Industry
And by the way ... please stop spamming in every thread!!

hd-dvd and blu-ray spreaded in usa and asia and that is the wide range of customers.
I Europe i don't know, i can only speak for Germany and at this time! Blu-Ray writers available for 800 euro (in US Dollar - $1.050) and HD-DVD not available. Only the HD-DVD drive from the Xbox 360 for 200 euro (in US Dollar - $263) ...
And spamming means, that you post every time in every thread without reading posts before you start writing an answer and after submitting your post, you will see that your post and the post from other user almost the same ...
You regged at 28th january and at this time you have 693 posts. Hey, come on. This forum doesn't exist a fully month and you post even to much...
EDIT
Sure, Moderators decide ... but a community with almost 6300 users and 1 Moderator ... PLEASE stay in the range of reality
