View Full Version : ANYDVD HD to Blu-Ray upgrade?

I currently own AnyDVD (and CloneDVD and CloneCD as well, all work great for their intended purpose and I have been a happy customer) and I now see that there is an HD-DVD version available at an upgrade pricing of $30. The problem I have is that I've seen the threads here where individuals had purchased AnyDVD even within just the last few days and they are being asked to pay the full $30 upgrade price when they could have saved $10 if they had just known to wait that extra day or two. (Not the best marketing strategy for SlySoft, IMHO.)

My question comes because, looking ahead and at the stickied press release on these forums announcing AnyDVD HD, that Blu-Ray support should soon be on the horizon. My fear is that based on that previous upgrade policy mentioned above. If I upgrade now to AnyDVD HD, will I be required to pay more to upgrade later to AnyDVD Blu-Ray as well? Will AnyDVD HD and AnyDVD Blu-Ray be separate products from each other also?

It isn't even clear, if AnyDVD HD will ever support Blu-ray...

@Zarlor

thx for the question, i thought the same ;) :confused:

I had a similar problem with clonecd. I had a lifetime update for clonecd.
Then it was sold to Slysoft and the company didnīt care about it. I had to buy it again. (okay there was a refund)

Sometimes the marketing policy should be a littlebit smarter, just my opinion.

On the other hand, slysoft has to pay their personnel too and they have to make profit too.

According to SlySoft's Marketing Director: "Already during the beta phase we got many inquiries about Blu-Ray so we decided to go ahead and also provide
support for this as soon as possible. Blu-Ray employs the same
AACS process as HD-DVD. An implementation was really just a matter
of form. A beta version is planned for availability this quarter."
(Press release: AnyDVD beats HD-DVD and AACS (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=1542))

Just to make myself perfectly clear, I'm a pretty happy customer of SlySoft products and fully understand the economics involved (and definitely want to see these great folks make money for the fantastic work they do!) I also just want to be a smart customer while I'm at it as I'm less interested in the format wars and far more interested in getting the most out of any of the formats (hopefully we'll see a dual-HD-format DVD drive in the near future. ;))

So, then let's wait patiently for the end of this quarter... ;)

But will the current upgrade offer expire by then? In other words if I wait, will I no longer be eligible for the current upgrade pricing, irregardless Blu-ray support?
