View Full Version : BD-RE Playback in Standalone Bluray Player

I have backed up a couple of my bluray movies and used TSRemux to strip out just the main movie so I can fit it on a BD-RE disc. TSRemux wrote out in Blu-ray format & I used ImgBurn to write the folders to a BD-RE disc.
However, when I try & playback the disc in a Panasonic DMP BD-30 standalone bluray player, it reads the disc, identifies it as "BD" goes into Play mode, displays 0:00:00 for a couple of seconds then says "Stop" and won't go any further.
Any ideas what is wrong? I have successfully made playable bluray BD-RE discs that this machine will play, so clearly there is something odd with the BD-format written by TSRemux.
Thanks

TSMuxer does all that TSRemux can, and might work better.

Thanks for the heads-up on TSMuxer.
I have remuxed the 0001.m2ts stream of the problematic bluray disc using TSMuxer and then re-written the BD disc with ImgBurn and it now plays back just fine in the standalone BD30 bluray player.
Clearly TSMuxer has the edge over TSRemux at the present time.
Thanks again

With TSRemux you have to run it through twice to fix the time codes. TSMuxer doesn't appear to have that problem. Also since it can open seamless branching titles, it's the preferred tool of choice for me, as well.
just a side note these standalone BD players on outdated firmware may not play burned BD-R disc even if it's burned right,
for example the sony BDP S300 with version 2.00 don't play BD-R disc's it will read and say can't play,
how ever when I updated from 2.00 to 3.70 on that player they play fine.
to update the firmware look up your player on there website and follow the directions to burn your own firmware update CD or have them ship you one, not saying this is your problem, but it could be the simplest way to fix it.

Yeah, I thought about firmware. The BD-30 has only just released on the UK market and is using FW v1.2 which seems to be the latest (released mid-April 2008).

This is not the firmware it is the fault of AnyDVD i have been working in trying to work this problem out .Also other people have been working to make a workaround in the bluray forum.
Most people in this forum use PC to play their blurays or PS3 and dont have this problem but standalone BD players have .
I will give an example .original Iron man (region b ) plays on panasonic dmp-bd30 and sony BDP-350 . But rip it with AnydvdHD and burn it (what ever brand of disc) and it does not play. But plays on Pc and PS3.
example 2.What happens in Vegas (region B) original plays on Sony and Pana.
Ripped with AnydvdHD .But copy only plays on Sony but not on Pana.
I hope Slysoft adress this problem and start testing their software on standalone players.
I have 4 different brands on Bluray players and have started to test copied discs. on all players. I do not use Tsmuxer.
And would love to see a section in this forum that addresses
standalone player issues in regards to AnydvdHd software not blaming
the firmware always ( All my players are update to latest firmware ).Because when the original discs works and copy don't then its the software. And its not a bad disc problem because i have tried every brand of disc.
So if one of the moderators could start a section for standalone players we would move forward and make AnydvdHD the best software around for every player.
Thanks Mrbluray

This is not an AnyDVD HD problem, if the BD-R/RE copies play on some standalones and not others then it's down to the players not AnyDVD HD. I don't see how you expect your argument to stand up to any scrutiny. All AnyDVD HD does is remove the encryption, if it then doesn't work on a standalone it's not AnyDVD HD fault.
Saying the originals work but the copies don't puts it down to 2 things, either you're not making copies properly or your players don't support playback of copies. The fact that they play back in the PS3 & on the other Sony shows they'll play back in a standalone, and I know others have had success playing back copies in other models of player.
You might want to give a step by step on how you make the disc including AnyDVD HD settings and file structure, Or try using the guide in my sig to see if that makes a difference. My friends have no problems playing my BD-r's or re's and they don't all have PS3's
You are also aware that the Panasonic player only supports BD-RE V3 discs and BD-R V2 discs?

@starz
The latest firmware for the Sony BDP-S300 and the BDP-S301 are now up to version 4.40, I just updated my S301 last week.

Nothing wrong with AnyDVD HD. It quite happily rips to hard-disk which I burn to BD-RE disc with ImgBurn (If they fit) or TSRemux them first to remove unwanted stuff. They have all played in my standalone Panasonic BD-30 just fine since my original problem was solved back in May 08.

25 GB blanks all are working so far.
I tried Fuji, TDK, Freestyle, Sony and LG.
50 GB only Sony worked for me.

I have tried TDK DL and they work in pana BD30
here is another example
Batman Begins . copy works in pana BD30 and in Sony Bd350 original plays in both. Disc used TDK DL (same disc i have used in previous tests)
I can give you many more examples i keep a database.
Now just because Iron man Region A works does not mean that their is
no problem with Region B. Problem with iron man that it starts to play
loads up to the menu and then stops to position 00:00:00
.Same as Horton Hears Who? and Drill Bit Taylor.
Have a look at Anydvd history updates how
many discs of one region work but not the other.
When their is a problem people straight away protect the software. It
would be the best if people try work through to solve the problem .
Not take the easy way out and blame the user.
I am a Electronic engineer with Masters in Programing have been
working in electronics and software debugging for 20 years.
Seen many people it support telling every user can you turn the power
of at the unit and turn it back one.Did that fix it sir ?
Burner used Lg GGW H20L firmware YL05
Players used for testing Panaasonic DMP-BD30 firmware Ver 2.1
and Sony BDP-S350 latest firmware update
Back up to HD with AnydvdHD
Settings Enable Blu-ray support,Remove BD+protection ,Remove Blu-ray
region code Region B.
Burnt to Disc through ImgBurn v2.4.2.0 UDF2.5
Would love to see this solved any methods in diagnosing
the problem would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance Mebluray

This is not an AnyDVD HD problem, it's purely down to how you make the disc, try removing BD-Live when using AnyDVD HD as that's the usual reason for it stopping in the way you describe. The fact that it works in both players with a different film basically proves that AnyDVD HD can make compliant films. I have the EU version of Horton and you have to disable BD-live to get the back up to work even on the PS3. You've already proven it yourself that the discs work on a Sony player but not on the Panasonic which means the Panasonic is having issues with how you built the disc. If you have worked in the industry as long as you say (which is about as long as I have) then you'd know that the issues is not with AnyDVD HD but either with how you're building the discs or with the player.
AnyDVD HD gives an exact copy of the original disc minus copy protection. That's all it's designed to do, it's then up to the end user to do with that unprotected stuff what they will to get a working disc. What you appear to be asking them to do is go in and give you settings for every movie so you don't have to do anything. So far I've written over 200 films onto BD-r or BD-re which have all played back in various makes and models of Blu-ray players. Some are region A, and some are Region B. I always follow my guide to make an ISO back up on my harddrive then burn that ISO to disc and so far it's never failed to play back for me and my friends.
Oh and the switch it off and back on again comment is true because most of the time rebooting the system does make it work again. Being a system builder and doing tech support for those systems I know this to works

Thanks for your time Adbear
One more thing to add to this situation that i have some backups that play in the pana and not the sony .
Thanks Mrbluray

I would check that they've all been authored properly, if you have a BD-RE disc that you know has worked on both systems then I suggest using my guide and making a disc that way and trying it on both players

Hi there,
I also have problem reading backed up BR on a panasonic BD-55.
When the original BD is less than 25, everything is fine. (imgburn)
When I need to trim a BD-DL, it doesn't matter if I use tsmuxer or tsremux, the resulting bd-RE won't play.
I tried a few different things, and I think the issue lies with muxing.
Note : The resulting BD-RE would happily play with powerdvd...

I have the same problem making a full backup BD-RE of Horton Region B.
Whatever options I check, the BD-RE doesn't play in my Samsung BD-P1500.
I have made loads of BD-REs of other movies which work, so I think there is something in the way AnyDVD is removing the BD+ protection which makes the copy not work in standalone players.
If someone has made a full BD-R or BD-RE of Horton Region B which plays in a standalone player, then I'll retract that but for now I think it is an AnyDVD problem.

Adbear, Did you try your Horton backup in any other non-PS3 players?
I think the problem I have with my Samsung is actually the same as this guy is having with his Panny:-
http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=164022&postcount=7
I stated earlier it is to do with BD+ but I now think it is to do with BD-J.
This guy managed to get a disc working:-

Obviously, there is some problem with the certificate or .jar files once AnyDVD has modified them.....

I had problems with my bd-p1500 playing dvd+r with bluray format on them when I upgraded my firmware to v2.3. Haven't tried the following info yet with my player but it seems to work for bd-p2500.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes I am using DVD+R disks writing BD-RD (aka, BD REBUILDER) data.
BREAK THROUGH!!!
I have successfully played DVDs on my SAMSUNG BD-P2500 (f/w vers 2.4) player. Output from BD-RB, tsMuxeR, or ripbot, all work. I just had to delete the empty \BDMV\AUXDATA folder and it works! It does take about 80 seconds from the time disk is inserted until it plays, but it plays!!!
In addition I found I could delete all the empty FOLDERS hilighted below and it still played.
