First, since I am a newbie to this forum, I must give much credit to Samuri for the hard work and knowledge in assembling these procedures, plus the other forum members that are continuing to contribute.

Software I use:

1. AnyDVD HD-Purchased around $123 US
2. Nero 8 Ultra-Purchased around $69( I was a Previous Nero 7 owner)
3. Nero 8 BluRay Module-Purchased around $29 US
4. TSremux-freeware

Hardware: LG 20L BluRay burner
Computer-HP Quad 6600, 3 GB Ram, 8800GT Video Card, PC cooling 750watt PSU

Vista Home Premium 32bit

1. Create 2 folders on your desktop, by right clicking, new. Name them. I use the name of the movie that I am archiving for one, and I use that name, plus Remuxed for the second folder.

2. Place movie in Bluray drive. Open SlySoft, go to Settings. For my personal preference I select the option of removing the annoying trailers and go directly to the movie. I then select, Rip movie to hard disc. For the destination directory, I use the first folder I have created with the movie name. Select Copy to DVD on AnyDVD. The program works and makes a copy of the movie with the encryption removed in the folder you have specified.

3. Once the AnyDvd program is finished, the next step, if you desire to reduce the size of the folder, is to use Tsremux. At this point you have some options: You can select Properties on the folder you have just created and look at the size of the movie. If you are going to use BD-R, or BD-RE media to store the movie you have the option of either 25 GB or 50 GB. When I look at the movie, if it is close to or slightly above 25 GB, I will use Tsremux to get it below 25 GB by selecting just the movie and a couple of sound tracks. If the movie is above 25 GB with no chance of getting it below 25 Gb you can leave everything in if you desire or reduce it in any way you want, personal preference. You can identify the movie stream usually by opening the folder and looking for the file with the biggest amount of data. This stream will contain the movie and the sound tracks you want.

3. Open Tsremux and select the folder you ripped the movie to with the name of the movie on it. Use this as the source. Use the next folder with the Remux name( or any other name) as the Output File. Since I am making a BluRay disc to use as a movie I leave the defaults in the program and the only change I make is to select Blu Ray in the Output format on the right side of the box. I usually select the movie and a couple of sound tracks by checking the boxes needed. When that is done, select Remux and the program starts.

4. When Remux is finished, I look at the folder size by selecting properties. Depending on the size, I will use a BD-R or BD-RE 25 or 50 GB disc.( Unless you are very rich, I would recommend using a BD-RE first to see if everything works as advertised: Coasters at $12-35 can be costly.) I then double click on the folder and open it. I then double click on the item and it will open and show 2 more folders: BDMV and CERTIFICATE.

5. I open Nero 8 Ultra and go to Nero ROM. I select Blu Ray disc( UDF), no multisession and then select NEW. A compilation screen opens up. I then select BMDV and CERTIFCATE from my remux folder and drag and drop into the compilation window. The size of the compilation will be shown at the bottom of the screen. Make sure you have the correct BD media in your burner. Select Burn and you will get another compilation screen with the Multisession tab highlighted. Now select the UDF tab. It defaults to Automatic. It is important to change this so the copied movie can play in standalone players. Select Automatic settings and change it to Manual( yes, you are now an advanced user!!) The UDF type should default to Physical partition. Select UDF 2.5, then select Burn. The program starts. My experience is that it can take about and hour and a half to burn a 30GB movie. It depends on your burner, Ram, media, etc.

Note: there are some movies where it is very difficult to identify the main movie stream, like Enchanted. I haven't figured that out, but I am sure Samuri knows how to do it in his guide. I just give up and use a 50 GB and nuke the whole movie.

5. When the movie is finished, I use Nero Showtime to test it. I put the movie back in the BluRay drive, open Nero Showtime and see if it plays. I have had success using these procedures. I haven't copied a BD-RE disc to a BD-R yet, but I will. It first has to pass the BD-RE test. I will use Nero ROM and select the BluRay disc copy option.

I do in fact know how to do seamless branching titles. :) You'll need to use eac3to (which is command line) and run it against your original. Something like "eac3to d:". That will spit out the largest mpls playlists. Identify which one belongs to your main movie (look at the duration to get a hint on that) and then open the mpls file from the playlist folder with TSMuxer. It will then join them for you without any additional work.

Also, it's not necessary to rip first. This just takes longer and takes up more space. You can work directly off the original disc with AnyDVD enabled.

Other than that, this all looks really good. Well done.

Now we need 50 GB BD-R's for around $15 to jump start the media sales.

Sorry to be such a noob.. :) but when in TsRemux what file do I select to convert?

I was reading your e-mail, and I am totally confused by this statement.

>>I then select, Rip movie to hard disc.

What is this???? Where is this button. There is nothing about rip in the settings, and the buttons on the bottom do not list rip, but Default, order OK and cancel.

I have tried to use this program over and over. I stick a disk in, it detects it tells me about its protection, but nothing else. I have tried to stick a blank DVD or blue ray into the second drive, it says no disk. (Yet my other programs recognize the blanks.)

So, since this program did not come with directions, just a small file with not directions on how to use it. What does this program do? Is it like DVD shrink? It writes it to disk, or is it like DVD fab that copies the disk. I find no where it says to put the file, Under drive selection I have two drives listed, the reader and burner, with checks next to the box, but no go. If I click the OK, it just gives me window that tells me the setting will not be saved, because it is not registered, and shuts itself down.

SO HOW DOES ONE GET THIS PROGRAM TO DO SOMETHING MORE THAN TELLING ME ABOUT THE DISK?

I would love to buy it, if it actually does something like making a copy of the disk to my hard disk, or directly copies the disk, but I don't see anythying happening.

So does anyone have any hints on how to use this program?

 It really helps to do a little reading first. I'm assuming you are talking about AnyDVD HD. Well, even reading the download text gives alot of info on what this does. But for the sake of.... nothing actually, responding to this question defies reason, but here goes. AnyDVD and it's high definition version AnyDVD HD is an application that removes content protection from the standard definition and high definition media that you buy. Fire up AnyDVD HD, stick the media in the drive and AnyDVD HD removes the digital shaft managemnt schemes on the disk (also known as DRM).

This allows the user some options:
1) Backup the purchased media so that the physical disk doesn't have to be used for long term playback. The "rip" function that you speak of helps in this regard, but it is advised to use something like ImageBurn or another software to actually do the "ripping" as AnyDVD HD is not really intended to rip software.
2) Allows you to play high definition media without having to spend money on HDCP compliant hardware. The hardware people have is more than sufficient to play high definition media. HDCP is an artificial restriction intended to "protect" consumers from themselves.
3) In some cases, allows you to play high definition media at all. Because BD+ is more concerned with profit and control than consumer rights or ease of use, each iteration causes headaches for many consumers that just want to play thier media. AnyDVDHD removes these restrictions and problems so that people can "just watch the freakin' movie".

All these considerations mean that you need to use something in addition to AnyDVD HD as this program is meant to work behind the scenes and not really have any user functionality of its own. It's true that things such as a ripper and such were thrown in, but those are concessions by the designers/programmers of the software and not in line with the true nature of what AnyDVD HD is.

Now since you overlooked tons of information to even ask such a question, everything i've said probably went over your head, but for what it's worth...hope it helps.

Thanks Jimbo for the guide. I just tried it this morning and it worked successfully. I have two questions. I wanted to know if their is a way to create a Blu-ray disc via Nero express. I've used that many time in making DVD's and like the simple interface and ease of that program. My second question is their a way to create a Blu-ray disc with just certain parts of the source Blu-ray like certain segments of the film and/or the behind the scenes video like one is able to do with DVD's?

yes

It is done just like when you choose just the MOVIE ONLY part of the source disk. If you use Bdinfo to find the certain segments you are looking for, such as the PLAYLIST or the M2TS files associated with that segment. Then you load the segment you chose in the form of a PLAYLIST or M2TS file or files associated with that segment into TSMUXER and create or build your special segment in a compliant BD structure.

Burn to BD-5 or BD-9 or BD-R or play with you software player on your media center computer.

Thanks fast eddie, but alas..a little over my head. When I created my "first" blu-ray copy I followed Samurais intructions without using the TSMUXER program. It sounded a little too hard for me. Right now I haven't gotten to the point were the movie had to be trimmed under 25GB and I prefer to rip the movie intact with no compression. I understand right now that TSMUXER is the program right now that is needed to pick out the certain segments that one wants, but its just a little to complicated or hard for me as this is my first burn in the high definition area. I was hoping for a program like DVDF** were the user just uses the interface to pick out what they wanted and the program "decrypts" and picks them out automatically. Right now my personal opinion is DVDF** is the better ripper for DVD's at has a simple user interface were one can select what they want, but right now I think AnyDVD HD is the only and best ripper right now for ripping Blu-ray. Even though I wish the interface had more "meat" like DVDF**s AnyDVD HD's ripping engine is much stronger. It rips Blu-rays without a sweat

Try the new beta of AnyDVD. It has a new Rip to image... option. Now you can rip to ISOs right from the AnyDVD interface. Sweet! And give it time...slysoft will create something that will facilitate selecting streams and all that for BD's. It's *VERY* complicated to undertake such a program. The movie only thing isn't too difficult. It can be done off the original disc. You need bdinfo and tsmuxer in addition to AnyDVD. See my guide which has a link to PrincipalityFusions' more thorough guide if you want assistance.

Now that Rip to ISO is available, can you please update us on using Nero to burn from image? Thanks!

SamuriHL

So, create the ISO on your hard drive with AnyDVD (making sure keep protection is UNchecked). Open nero, select burn image, and select the ISO.

Well, very few of us use Nero for this, so, none of us will be surprised. We all recommend the freeware ImgBurn for this. Works much better.

Ah, ok. I haven't ever burned a BD-RE with Nero. I always use ImgBurn and it always works. I would assume Nero should be fine, but, if they're having problems it would be a good idea to try ImgBurn to rule out bad media or other problems I think.

I have tried using Nero 8 and IMGBURN to copy the ANYDVD HDDVD ISO to blank BD-re 50 GB discs. The result is playable using Power DVD 8 on the computer. I have also tried ripping to file folder's BDMV and Certificate and burning it that way as well with no success on the PS-3.

All these discs are not recognized by my PS-3. The access icon comes up, then disappears without recognizing the disc.

I have read discussion of a Java applet called CPISTRIP. This seems to describe the reset of protection bits that prevent the PS 3 from reading a BD-RE. I have had no success finding this applet however.

My goal is simply to create an ISO using ANYDVD that is UDF 2.5 complient
and then burn the result to a 50GB BD-RE that will be recognized by a PS-3.

Any help appreciated!

I have no problems with single or dual layer BD-re's on my PS3, and I've watched hundreds of films recorded onto them I've done it from unprotected ISO made using AnyDVD HD and from folders on the hardrive using Imgburn and setting the UDF to 2.5. You don't need that applet if you make the disc correctly in the first place.

I think I see your problem, uncheck "Remove annoying adverts and trailers" and re-rip from the original disc

SamuriHL

If that doesn't work, I'm guessing it's a region code removal problem.

I understand that many manufacturers are disabling the playback of BD-R in current or future firmwares.

How can they do this? What if someday wedding videos and home videos are burned to BD-R to play on my standalone. Is this a different format?

Also what is BD-9 as this seems to be getting disabled as well in firmwares?

Just wondering if it will ever be 100% safe that our BD-ROM movie backups will play on all standalones future firmware

Adbear

Where do you understand this from, I have no confirmed reports of this and all the main players I look at seem to have BD-r/re playback support. There have been rumours about this happenning (and that's all they seem to be) ever since Sony unlocked BD-r/re playback on the PS3

BD-9 is where you write the BD format onto a DVD-9.

The only other thing I can think of is that you're on a very early firmware for the PS3

A 1-1 backup of my 25gb movies to 25gb bd-re or bd-r works fine. Just tried a 1-1 of hitchhikers using a TDK bd-re dl 50gb and the latest ANYDVD HD is NOT recognized by my PS 3 running 2.5 firmware. The only checked boxes in ANYDVD were Remove BD+ and disable BD live. Keep protection was unchecked.

Adbear
1st November 2008, 17:29
Well I've mainly used 2 ways since moving over to Imgburn. Either rip to the hard drive as folders removing region code and puops then burn back in Imgburn setting UDF to 2.5 or Rip to HD as ISO with the same settings then use Imgburn to write image to disc.

I tend to use the first option as I add in the missing empty folders that PowerDVD prefers to have in there

Used the latest Anydvd 6.3.7.9, enable blu ray support and BD+ protection removed, Keep protection remains unchecked. I burned the resulting BMDV and Cert. folders using TDK BD-RE DL 50 japanese import on three diffrent blank discs from the same batch/lot. The resulting backups will not play on my PS-3. (diesen Thread in deutsch (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=22884) lesen)

Dear Blu-ray Disc fans,

again and again there're questions regarding copying a Blu-ray Disc. For that reason I'm writing the following tutorial.

Software you need:

- AnyDVD HD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvdhd.html)
- BDInfo (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/File-CD-DVD-Catalog/BDInfo.shtml)
- tsMuxer (http://www.smlabs.net/tsmuxer_en.html)
- Nero Burning ROM (http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero9-trial.php)

1. Step: Saving a Blu-ray Disc with AnyDVD HD on the harddisk

Install AnyDVD HD on your system and run the software. Load the relevant Blu-ray Disc in your Blu-ray drive. AnyDVD HD will automatically check the Blu-ray Disc. Click the AnyDVD HD Icon in the task bar with the right mouse button and choose 'Settings'. Click on 'Video Blu-ray' and choose at least 'Enable Blu-ray support' and 'Remove BD+ protection'. It is recommended to check all boxes. Below there's the opportunity to activate 'Remove Blu-ray Region Code'. Click on 'Ok' to confirme the changes. Click the AnyDVD HD Icon in the task bar with the right mouse button and choose 'Rip Video DVD to Harddisk'. For 'Source Directory' choose the Blu-ray Disc drive, for 'Destination Directory' a place on your harddisk. Click on 'Copy DVD' to start the process. The duration dependents on the speed of your Blu-ray Disc drive.

2. Step: Analyze the Blu-ray Disc content

Start 'BDInfo' and click on 'Browse' to search for the Blu-ray Disc files on the harddisk. Choose the root directory of the Blu-ray, so that you can see the subdirectories 'BDMV' and 'CERTIFICATE', and click on 'Ok'. 'BDInfo' will now collect all the information of the Blu-ray Disc and shows the 'Playlists'. The main movie, as a general rule with the longest play time, is displayed at first position. Notice the filename of the '*.MPLS'. Using the example of 'Kung Fu Panda', it is the file '00020.MPLS'.

3. Step: Preparing the content for a BD-R/RE 25 GB blank Blu-ray Disc

The Blu-ray Disc movie 'Kung Fu Panda' contains 44,4 GB volume of data and doesn't fit on a 25 GB BD-R/RE blank Blu-ray Disc. With the help of 'tsMuxer' you can extract menu, extras and sound tracks to save capacity. Start 'tsMuxer' and click on 'add' for adding the playlist file of the main movie. Using the example 'Kung Fu Panda' the playlist is in the directory '\BDMV\PLAYLIST' and is called '00020.MPLS'. Automatically 'tsMuxer' collects all file informationen of the main movie. In the area 'Tracks' you can uncheck individual video-, sound- and subtitle tracks. If you choose only the HD-video track (H.264, 1080p, 24 fps) and the german sound (640 Kbps, 48 KHz, 6-channels) for instance, the size of 'Kung Fu Panda' can be reduced from 44,4 GB to 14,5 GB. The quality of picture and sound will be completely untouched. Click on 'Blu-ray' ahead and choose 'Custom chapter list' to apply the original chapters. Go back to 'Input', choose the conforming video- and sound tracks and click on 'Create Blu-ray Disc' in the area 'Output'. Choose a saving directory on your harddisk by clicking on 'Browse' where the new Blu-ray Disc files will be saved at. Finally click on 'Start muxing' to write the compilation on your harddisk. The duration dependents on the hardware configuration for your computer.

'tsMuxer' offers some more options. Click on 'Blu-ray' to adjust or deactivate the chapters. Click on 'Split & cut' to define at what file size or play time 'tsMuxer' should cut the files. This can be usefull for FAT formatted harddisks. Additional the beginning and the end of the movie can be cut by clicking on 'Cutting'. This is worthwhile if the filesize is minimal to large for a 25 GB BD-R/RE blank Blu-ray Disc. Click on 'Subtitles' to setup the display of the subtitles.

4. Step: Writing the new Blu-ray Disc content on a 25 GB BD-R/RE blank Blu-ray Disc

Start 'Nero Burning ROM' and choose the profile 'Blu-ray Disc (UDF)'. Click on 'Multisession' ahead and choose 'No Mulitsession'. Only then it's guaranteed, that the blank Blu-ray Disc will be compatible with Blu-ray Disc players. Now click on 'UDF', 'manual settings' and choose for the UDF partition type 'physical partition' and for the filesystemversion 'UDF 2.50'. Click on 'Burning' ahead and check the boxes 'Burning' and 'Finalize' and click on 'New' below. Now put the folders 'BDMW' and 'CERTIFICATE', created with 'tsMuxer', to your 'Nero Burning ROM' project and click on the burning icon or press CTRL+B. The duration dependents on the speed for your Blu-ray Disc drive.

I hope that my little tutorial can help you by producing a copy of your Blu-ray Disc movies. Kindly note, that I'm not a professionally english speaking person, so please forgive my mistakes. Thanks for the guide, but it's pretty much all already covered in the sticky at the top of this forum and in the 'FAQ Read this first' sticky on the Anydvd HD forum

I don't get it. I thought you just created an ISO with AnyDVD, then burned the ISO to a single or dual layer BDR with ImgBurn.

Why are all these steps necessary?

What brand of disks are the best to work with and which brands do you absolutely not buy?

I like Verbatim personally. Panasonic BD-RE's seem to work well, too, but, I don't have experience with DL discs yet. Since I just put a burner in my new HTPC, I'll probably be picking some up after the holidays.

I have made a backup of my BD I am Legend using Anydvd HD and TsMuxer, burning it with Nero 8 (UDF 2,50).
The BD-RE works fine on my pc in PowerDVD, but it won't work in my stand alone player Samsung BD-1400.

Is there any tricks, or something I've done wrong?

Does anyone have the same samsung as me, and get BD-copies to work?

See this post (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=166166&postcount=40) of mine, its possible Samsung removed your BD-RE support in the firmware you have.

Let us know what you find out and what firmware you are running on. Maybe try an older firmware version.

Nice posts here.

I am looking at buying a new Blu Ray burner. Will most Blu Ray movies fit onto a 25 GB disc with minimal, if any, "shrinkage"?

I know Blu Ray DVDs are specially made to resist scratching, and not being a person who really digs "extras" found in movies, I really only plan on watching the basic movie only.

And, I havent spent a whole lot of time searching yet, but wil the lossless audio formats on Blu Ray be copied over with AnyDVD HD and the use of Newro 8 Ultra? To me, Audio is almost as important as the video in a movie.

Thanks.

AnyDVD HD copies over the exact disc and just removed copy protection, so yes the audio stays the same. Nero has nothing to do with the ripping process and its just used to burn the files to disc as a UDF 2.5 format which is the Blu-Ray spec format. You could as easily use ImgBurn to do the burning of the files since it also supports UDF 2.5. I prefer ImgBurn because its Free and light.

Most all the movies today use the 50GB discs. And the movie only will probably not fit on a 25GB because of the lossless audio space. Also keep in mind that a BD-R SL is more like 22.5GB space on that disc and not the advertised 25GB.

Now there are products coming up that will allow you to shrink the video and audio, but these are not yet one click, mature, and polished (i.e. Beta form). If you are interested search the doom9 forums for BD Rebuilder and RipBot264. Also looks like SlySoft is seeking beta testers (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=23294)for its own shrinking product (probably a CloneBD).

Here is some useful reduction info from this post (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=111282&postcount=9) by SamuriHL (see quote below):

Some movies, for instance, have both a TrueHD and LPCM track. If you get rid of the LPCM track and keep the TrueHD track then you can save a significant amount of space. Others I've only seen a 5 or 6 gig savings on. Most of the ones I've done end up being between 20 and 30 gig whereas they start out at between 30 and 40. Not bad by any means.

And you really should be reading/posting to this BD Movie Only thread (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=16922) since its more appropriate for what you are looking to do.

Thanks for the info.

In regards to where to post/read, I did a search and this seemed to be the most relevant posting. Thats why I am here.

Consider yourself extremely lucky. What people fail to realize is that memorex doesn't MFG their own media. They purchase the cheapest stuff they can find and put their brand on it. So you never really know what you're getting with memorex. Personally, I wouldn't trust my data to it.
