I bought a Fujitsu Siemens Xi2550 with a Matshita UJ-110 BD drive in. The first thing I did was killed Vista, and installed XP (with AnyDVDHD, PowerDVD 7.3 etc).

I've hardly used the machine, as amongst other things, the drive is quite slow in comparison to an LG GGC-H20L and it weighs a tonne.

From time to time I've ripped the odd movie when my other PC was being used by my wife. Everything was fine. However just recently I've had the experience during ripping, that TSMuxer will report 'no media in drive'. Opening and closing the drive does not help. Until next reboot no BD disks are recognised, the drive makes a clacking sound.

I know the disks aren't dirty or damaged, as after this I repeated the action on my LG machine.

This weekend it happened again, and now I'm convinced that it's a HW problem. I called Fujitsu-Siemens who told me that as I'd overwritten Vista, and installed unsupported software (AnyDVDHD) then they couldn't help. They told me I would need to reinstall only the delivered software before they would accept a return so they could try to recreate the problem. Yes, I was fuiming.

So long leadup, short question. Did anyone else suffer a problem with this drive ? What was the solution ?

Thanks. Mike.

I 'downgraded' back to Vista and installed IMGBURN. I made a BD iso with no problem. I installed AnyDVDHD and ripped a BD to ISO no problem. Then I ripped files (it took ages, but) no problem.

I've looked into my snapshot.exe backup of my old Windows XP image, and found no SPTD or other software that might have caused a negative impact.

Any ideas on where it could lye ? Is there a FW update that would be worthwhile ?

Mike.

I had the same problem again on Friday using Vista. about 3% through the rip, I got the message 'no media in drive'.

I'd like to try a FW update, but can't find one on the web.

You're not going to. You need to call Fujitsu-Siemens and ask if one is available. Matshita (Panasonic OEM) drives also have a reputation of being cheap junk (which is probably why some laptop companies love these drives), die easily, and also suffer from region coding issues. They should really be avoided.

click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=12460 and see if that helps (it doesn't require Anydvd). So if that doesn't work, I would try another drive.
