first make sure you have the latest firmware update for your drive second did you try the movie with anydvd disabled if it doesnt work that way then its a problem with the disc HDDVD was know to have alot of faulty discs. third how did you install the HDDVD hack did you just follow steps online or did you follow SamuriHL's steps at the following link

no i havent... i have the powerdvd 8 install though but not from those steps since i didnt have powerdvd 7... what happens is when i put it in anydvd scans and says error while reading and the computer doesnt even recognize a hd dvd disc, and when i turn anydvd off it does the same thing... has that happened to anybody else? or should it just be that i need the firmware update?

Power DVD 8 sans hack does not support HDDVD if you install the PDVD 7 that came with your LG it should have the HDDVD support and you should use 7 for HDDVD playback. It is what I do as I am not computer literate enough to want to play with the programs to much. Best of luck.

some logs would be helpful. and then try to completely read the disk without anydvd.
"and the computer doesnt even recognize a hd dvd disc". obviously this is wrong as anydvd recognizes it. maybe this has something to do with your os but this is only speculation without any logs or system stats.

I also have some unreadable brand new HDDVD right out of the box. Clean by proper CD cleaner fix them all for me although I see no dirt or scratch.

I own this drive, It does not play HD-DVD's, unless there is some hack out there. I am more upset by the fact this burner only burns DVD+R DL at 2.4x.

The one time I don't bother looking at drive specs . . .

the GGW-H20L does play HDDVDs i have it and it plays just fine. it even says it on the drive to. but of course if you dont have the right software you surely not gonna play an HDDVD

OP poster was talking about GBW-H20L, which doesn't read HD DVD.
