Ok, I've been very vocal about not being able to use TMT on my machines, but, recent events have forced me to reevaluate that situation. The HD PVR I bought comes with TME (which includes a scaled down TMT) so I've had a chance to play around with it. The scaled down version isn't all that useful for BD's and HD DVD's. But I had to upgrade to the full TME for some additional functionality that I needed which now includes the full version of TMT. It's working perfectly on my laptop scarily enough. And seems faster than PowerDVD on playing a lot of my media. I'll be installing it on my HTPC soon so I'll get to try it out with HD DVD's, but, it plays Iron Man no problem at all. So, I have to say, TMT is starting to fascinate me and will be looking into maybe using it more.

P.S. ArcSoft installs a bunch of crappy services, filter drivers, and annoying daemons that I've completely disabled making things a bit more useful and stable. If the arcsoft connect service is running, my machine is very unstable. But it runs fine without that stupid service and daemon running, so, I just disable them. :)

hi!
So you like TMT more than any other software?
Do you have any further tips for TMT?
Thank you!

I'm not sure I said I like it MORE than PowerDVD just yet. I'm still a long long way away from that determination. :) I simply find it interesting now that it actually works on one of my machines. I haven't had time to test it on my HTPC yet so I've yet to see an HD DVD play in it but Iron Man BD certainly seemed to work ok on my laptop. It plays media files (AVC both high and low bitrate with aac or ac3 audio) quite well fo rme. It plays high bitrate HD mpeg2 files well. It seems quicker than PowerDVD so far, but, PowerDVD with all its faults at least works 100% for me. So, I'll be trialing it out over the next few weeks to see how it does. Since it was included in the software I needed anyway, if it doesn't work no big loss, but, on my laptop I now have 4 of the major players. (Ok, 3.5 as I hate showtime and refuse to even bother with it. But it is installed.) But, with all that being said, I do like what I've seen so far. If it continues to impress me, then my opinion may change and it could end up on top.

So I've had some more time to test out TMT. I wish I had better news. First, audio is a major problem for me. I only ever get 2 channel sound out of it. That's when it decides to play audio at all. But my rear speakers are not engaged when I select 5.1 in the audio selection. Also, my movie only ISOs that contain TrueHD tracks...I get no audio output at all. The information display shows that the audio track is there, but, I get no audio at all. I have none of these problems in PowerDVD at all. This definitely does not work for me as a playback solution. It's unfortunate as I think I would have grown to like this player.

With all the problems I've seen discussed with TMT I seriously wonder how they can even sell it. Yes, PowerDVD has its issues but TMT's problems are insane. Many many people report that they can't even get it to start up and I'm one of those people. Your problems are just very disheartening.

Yea, they really are cause it's a nice interface. I'd REALLY want to like this program. In the beginning I couldn't even get it to work at all, but, this latest version at least runs. But the audio thing drives me insane as I have a nice receiver so I don't have audio problems. PowerDVD works with all my ISOs and discs with 0 problems. It's not ideal, but, at least it works and I get decent audio. TMT...not so much.

I just tried installing it again. I made a restore point before doing this, of course. 2 channel audio works but if I switch to 5.1 then I lose the rear channels, as you noted.

That makes me want to run out and buy that program immediately.

Yea, tell me about it. :) If it didn't come with something I already own I'd be pretty irritated. But, if it doesn't work, oh well. I still have PowerDVD. On my laptop I only have 2 channel sound anyway, so, who cares. It might be useful on there but on my HTPC...not so much.

Are you kidding me? No way. It was the latest download from the webpage. An unregistered demo but I guess they use the same installer for demo and retail. The installer was totalmediatheatre_retail_intro_e.exe.

I wonder if that limits you to the 2 channel version. Mine is retail version included with TME. So, it shouldn't be doing that for me.

It didn't say anywhere that that is a limitation. That would be stupid if it was a trial limitation though. It doesn't make me want to purchase the product.

In any case, the fact that it doesn't seem to work for me irritates me. Maybe I'll register the product so I can get tech support and open a bug. But that assumes I care enough.

I have the "retail" (older trial version, activated and patched to the latest version) edition and I had no problems with audio. My problem is when I tried to display the picture at fullscreen on my 30" monitor (at 2560x1600) the picture only shows on about a quarter of the screen. The rest appears to be blank overlay.

I haven't updated this thread recently, but, the audio problems were my own fault. I had screwed up my audio software's speaker config. Once I fixed that everything worked perfectly. I've been using it as my player of choice for a while now. Absolutely loving it.

I have PowerDVD 7 and 8 and prefer 7. But TMT is better than both. Caveat: When it works. It doesn't work on all my machines and it doesn't work on a LOT of machines out there. But it's nice when you can make it do what you want.

I sooooo wish I could figure out my audio problem. Why would it suddenly just stop working. Seriously. I don't get it. I'm not shelling out money if I have no sound!!! I really do like TMT from my brief successful testing, though. :bang:

I have a suggestion. try using SRS Audio Sandbox. It is a virtual soundcard that processes audio and sends it to your real soundcard. TMT may like the virtual soundcard over the real one. The software has a graphical display so you can see the individual channel sound levels. You can set it up for multichannel sound. If it works then you know its the soundcard thats causing your issues. I think the free trial works for 15 days. Good luck.

On my XP MCE SP3 system, I have to disable AnyDVD HD with TMT for BD playback. Otherwise, the video playback is jaggy. I guess that's just my system.
On the other hand, with PowerDVD 7.3 4407, the video playback is fine with or without AnyDVD HD running in the background.

2.1.6.126 is available now. :)

I uninstalled all my Creative SoundBlaster Titanium Fatal1ty drivers, uninstalled the card from the Device Manager, uninstalled ArcSoft TMT, deleted any ArcSoft registry keys, deleted all the ArcSoft folders under user accounts, reboot, reinstalled the soundcard and drivers, updated to the latest drivers, reinstalled ArcSoft TMT, and found I still had no sound. This was ArcSoft TMT 2.1.6.125. I then was notified by TMT that there was an update so I downloaded, installed the update, rebooted, and tried playing another BD. Now I have sound!
I really don't know for sure what fixed the problem but apparently the 2.1.6.126 update solved my problem.
I just spent I don't know how many hours messing around with this.

Cool. Glad you got it working. :)
Yeah, I'm not sure why ArcSoft yanked the downloadable demo but when they did that they also made navigating their website impossible. Finding updates for TMT is nearly impossible. I gave up and went to the forums and there it was. :)

TME includes TMT, but, TME didn't apparently notice that there was an update for TMT. Nor did TMT's update program. Whatever. It's upgraded now.

Alright, yeah, you did mention it worked before. So, you can selectively use a TMT updater to update the TMT portion of the TME suite. I suppose that makes sense but they really should make things work nicer.
Ever since they yanked the demos and redid the website everything just seems to be an enormous pain to accomplish with TMT. They actually make things more complex than CyberLink. You'd think that if you want people to buy your product you'd make things a bit easier to do.

The update didn't find it automatically. I told it to search and it found it. But yea, you'd think it should be easier.

There are two seperate patches: 1 for TME and 1 for TMT. The TMT patch will upgrade the TMT components that are included within TME. You can always find them on their forums. Arcsoft_Jason is the primary community contact for TMT/TME, and alwasy posts the release notes and direct download links to the patches. However, can I ask why you are using TME? I looked at both products before purchasing TMT, and found that I would never use the "additional, premium" features of TME for DVD/HD playback.
SamuriHL
13th November 2008, 17:04
Because I got it cheap? :) I got it for upgrade pricing cause TME came with my HD PVR and I wanted the full TMT.
hiro1030
13th November 2008, 17:47
In my case, when I opened TMT, the update notification popped up automatically.
BTW, I ditched PowerDVD. After I updated to 4617, I got the HDCP compatibility issue message. So, I reverted back to 4407, but it won't even open anymore. I cleaned up all the registry entries and reinstalled 4407, but it still won't open.
Well, SQ of TMT is much better than that of PowerDVD on my system anyway. :)
SamuriHL
13th November 2008, 17:49
Yea, sound is better for me, as well. That's messed about PowerDVD. TMT when it works does a very good job. Supposedly this new version adds hardware acceleration for DVD's. That's probably good. :)

Hi,
Just bought TMT and whilst it plays my BR images I am unable to play HD DVD images. I just get a black screen for a second and then it returns to the TMT background.
If I play .evo file from the VCD mounted image then it plays.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

They are old images made using imgburn. So I am just mounting the ISO.
I ripped them with ANYDVD HD running.

Are you using VCD 5.4.1.2 beta? If not, please do so.
