View Full Version : Sony Blue Ray not working on my new Dell XPS 730 and AnyDVDHD?

I have AnyDVD/AnyDVDHD and I have a new Dell XPS 730 with 2 blue ray burner/player drives. I put my movie Short Circuit2 in the top drive and my Sony RW Blue Ray 25GIG blank in the bottom drive, and burned a copy using Roxio Blue Ray Premier 10.2 and it took about an hour and 15 min.

When I put the disk in either drive it recognizes it with these three folders,

BDMV, Certificate, and Sly!

But neither Media Center Blue Ray or PowerDVD Blue Ray open the disk or play it.

HELP!

My responses 1) presume you own the original retail disc you are attempting to backup, 2) tend to represent myself only, and 3) do not necessarily represent the views of Slysoft nor its developers. I do not work for Slysoft.

Of course. I always buy my disks and back them up for travel etc. I had 2 reg dual layer burners in my older Dell and burned copies on the fly with AnyDVD no problem.

Now I am trying to do that with my new Blue Ray set up.

I requested a lot more information than that. Let's start with #1 from that link and continue . . .

1) a)If you have HDCP compliance, does the original disc play with Anydvd disabled? If it doesn't, then your problem has nothing to do with Anydvd.

It plays.

b) Does the original disc play with Anydvd enabled?

Yes.

2) Update your drive's firmware if available: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=18731

Already current.

3) Ensure you're using the lastest version of Anydvd HD. Check the sticky at the top of this forum.

Yes.

4) Remove packet writing software from your system, including Roxio's Directcd, Nero's Incd, Roxio/Sonic's DragtoDisc, Drive Letter Access, CyberLink InstantBurn, NTI's Filecd, etc.

Not sure how to do this.

The issue you're having has nothing to do with Anydvd. Anydvd doesn't burn, and if the original disc is playing fine with Anydvd enabled, then Anydvd is working properly.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find any attached log files.

Moving thread to the third party products forum . . .

I was wrong.

When I turn off AnyDVD I get a failed to enable HDCP message and it stops playing.

Only when AnyDVD is on does the retail version play.

Error code. 0107

It starts to play past the FBI thing then a bit to the opening then I get the error message and it stops.

You should update Vista to service pack 1.

As you require Anydvd to be running to play the original disc (and since the original disc plays fine when Anydvd is running), then Anydvd is working fine.

The problem lies elsewhere.

All I want to do is put my purchased Blue Ray movie on my top blue ray burner/reader drive, and my blank in the second blue ray burner/reader drive and make a copy on the fly. No ripping to hard drive etc, because that is the purpose of having 2 bl ray burners. I always did it with my regular dual layer dual drives on my old Dell with AnyDVD regular in the past. I then got 2 blue ray burners and a new Dell Quad Core, so I upgraded to AnyDVDHD and now all these issues.

Can anyone help or am I just going to be pushed off like I just was?

Thanks ;)

Play the disc from your BluRay drive with a software player and AnyDVD HD running in the background. Does it play correctly?

Rip the BluRay disc to your hard drive using the AnyDVD ripper via Rip to Image... and mount it using Virtual CloneDrive. Now play the mounted image with a software player. Does it play correctly?

You're automatically jumping to the conclusion that the problem is AnyDVD HD. Trying removing Roxio from the equation. You are, IMHO, insane to do a BluRay drive to BluRay drive rip & burn without ripping to the hard drive first. You're begging for a problem to occur with that method.

You're going to need to do a lot more reading. And copying on the fly is never advisable (unless you actually believe you're burning on the fly while you're really not), unless you enjoy the potential for introducing poor burn quality.

You're no longer dealing with dvds. You're in a brand new country now.

You weren't "pushed off", and I'm really less inclined to help you at all now with your attitude. Start clicking stickies, and start reading.

Why am I "insane" for doing that?

I always did that with my dual layer reg DVD's and AnyDVD regular and never had a coaster.

It also was a helluva lot faster than burning to HD then ripping etc.

This should work my friend.

I did not call anyone a name or insane, I just need help with this.

You cannot equate copying a standard DVD to copying a BluRay disc. They are not the same. The amount of data being copied is not the same. The drives and technology is not the same. There is far less room for any errors occurring and having things work out correctly. You are inherently putting yourself at risk by doing on-the-fly ripping & burning and you are now doing that with far more expensive media. Doing this is doing it at your own risk and expense. No one should be ripping & burning on the fly. It defies logic.

This should work my friend.

Should and will are two very different things. On paper many things look great but in reality aren't. You are introducing yet more variables into the equation when you try to rip and burn on the fly. You simply should not be doing this.

This problem is likely caused by your method of burning if not the Roxio software. I highly suggest you follow my advice before about playing the original from the drive with a software player and then ripping the original to your HDD and playing it with a software player and seeing if it plays as it should.

I did not call anyone a name or insane, I just need help with this.

You've been given advice yet insist on not accepting it. Your method is insane. Anyone who does this is absolutely asking for a problem to occur. That, in my book, is insane. Sorry if you are insulted by that but I certainly wouldn't consider throwing away money on blank BluRay media by using a unwise backup method to be smart, wise, or sane.

I strongly advise you to read the stickied posts in the AnyDVD HD forum and read other posts where people talk about the methods they use for making backups of BluRay discs. These people know what they are talking about and you are the first person I have seen that has done a Bluray reader to BluRay burner burn on the fly. I am completely unsurprised that you encountered problems.

I've used AnyDVD HD to make a copy of this disc with no problems, but then I always rip to an ISO or folder first and check it's playing from that before burning back to disc. This is not an ANYDVD HD problem otherwise it wouldn't play for me from folder, ISO or BD-RE. And I have to agree with the earlier comments, it's not advisable to just burn disc to disc as it's not reliable. I'd also advise getting a few BD-RE's to test with before committing to BD-R's
