As Reported in post http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=131129&postcount=45

Testing with TMT V125 (just came out)

1) All Combo's of Blu-Ray works fine: Disk / ISO / With (and without) AnyDVD HD running

2) HD-DVD Disks work fine - With (and without) AnyDVD HD running

3) HD-DVD ISO's will not play - With (and without) AnyDVD HD running. I've only got a couple in ISO format and they were created with AnyDVD HD running & they have had AACS removed. They mount fine, if Any DVD HD is running it displays the usual stuff but TMT does little (it looks like it tries to open it for 0.5 sec but nothing happens - no error message...just nothing).

After playing with the latest release and re-ripping a HD-DVD I can also confirm that:
4) HD-DVD ISO's with an associated DVD File when mounting the DVD File Play Fine - this however is an inelegant solution and not practical for me as:
a) most of my images were created prior to ANY DVD's ability to create ISOs (eg Image Burn) so I would either have to either re-rip or manually create the DVD file (but no idea what the layer break info would be) ;
b) many HTPC front ends recognise ISO files as a type to launch ; and
c) it must be possible to just mount the HD-DVD ISO as they play fine with Daemon Tools.

To me it looks like VCD is still reporting HD-DVD's as Blu-ray disks and that may be causing the issue with TMT not playing them / freezing. The following is the info collected for both the Original HD-DVD and the ISO mounted with VCD.

I ripped Transformers HD-DVD to my HDD using AnyDVD HD 6.4.7.6 and had it remove AACS. I mounted the resulting .DVD file in VCD 5.4.1.1 and played it with TMT 2.1.6.125. It plays just fine with or without AnyDVD HD running.

Summary for drive V: (AnyDVD 6.4.7.6)
ELBY CLONEDRIVE 1.4
Drive (Hardware) Region: 1

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 6903072 sectors (13482 MBytes)
Total size: 13806144 sectors (26965 MBytes)
Video HD DVD label: TRANSFORMERS_D1_NA
Media is not AACS protected.

It does not play if I directly mount the ISO instead of using the .DVD file for mounting the ISO. Remember the purpose of the emulation via media type and consequently why the .DVD file is used is important. This goes to prove why mounting the .DVD file is the way to do things WinDVD in which case you do want to mount the ISO directly but this is an exception].

Btw, James has said previously that an image larger than 8.5 GB is assumed to be a BD when a media type isn't indicated saying it is otherwise (ie the .DVD file).

Yup and how do you go if you mount the ISO file?

See my edit. :)

It shows why the .DVD file is so important.

I understand and agree with the results......but I'll going to argue that this is a shortcoming in VCD and the "DVD" file is just a workaround as Daemon Tools can mount HD-DVD ISO's that play in TMT v125 just fine without the supplementary "DVD" file. The whole idea is that an ISO contains the entire disk image - imagine if a HW Drive came out that said if the disk inserted is over 8.5 GB then it must be Blu-ray BUT we will let it also play HD-DVD if you tag it first....

Slysoft was a big supporter of HD-DVD over Blu-ray and while that argument has been lost what is the suggested way forward for mounting our old HD-DVD ISO? Please keep in mind given the time line of when HD-DVD was discontinued that most HD-DVD ISO would have been created PRIOR to AnyDVD's ability to rip them and create the associated DVD file (eg we all used Image Burn).

I could live with a solution where:
1) I create a manual DVD File for each HD-DVD ISO that just contains "MediaType=HDDVD"
2) I still mount the ISO (not the DVD file) with VCD and it checks to see if the associated DVD files exists for any additional information (eg HD-DVD Media Type)

Better still (and I think the only real solution)......VCD recognises what the media type is just like Physical Drives / Daemon Tools can.

I'm a big supporter of Slysoft products and love how they continue to expand the features (eg ISO creation and the upcoming :D HD muxer) and have no intention of using Daemon Tools rather, I'd like to provide the feedback required to improve VCD.

Nathan

EDIT – Given the technical prowess of the coding gods at Slysoft I cannot believe that it is not possible for VCD to first evaluate the content of an ISO then mount it as a CD / DVD / Blu-ray / HD-DVD as appropriate.

I completely concur. I have a large HD-DVD library, one that was ripped prior to AnyDVD providing the native capabilities to rip HD-DVD/Blu-ray disks. Plus, if anyone is using MyMovies, the ISO is mounted. MM does not support the .DVD file type yet for auto-mounting images. Brian has plans to incorporate this. Plus, Brian is a big advocate of TMT over any other HD software player. I am currently trying to test TMT over PDVD7.3 to see if it's even worth it to switch to. This is the one stumbling block for me.

[EDIT] And it appears that simply creating the .DVD file by hand is not enough. For instance:

Mounts, but TMT will not play the ISO when selecting .DVD file with the following contents
MediaType=HDDVD
300_HDDVD.iso

AnyDVD Status:
Summary for drive D: (AnyDVD 6.4.7.8)

Here are the log files from AnyDVD.

Well, I just tested mounting an ISO with DT 4.30.0303, and the issue remains. I wonder if the problem is with TMT and not the ISO mounting tools themselves.

BTW, I am testing TMT 2.1.6.125. I removed PDVD 7.3 completely from my test system (Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.)

I think I have it resolved. I removed DT from the Uninstall Programs applet and its associated SPTD driver from Device Manager (selected View -> Show Hidden Devices, uninstalled it and rebooted my system.) When I removed the SPTD driver, I noticed that there was an instance of the VCD driver installed and loaded(under Non-Plug-and-Play Drivers -> elbyiodriver (sp?).) I also removed it, rebooted my system, and re-installed VCD 5.4.1.1. After that, I was able to mount almost all of my HD-DVD ISOs, TMT would launch and begin playing the movie.

I think I have a few corrupt ISOs and I need to re-rip anyways.
