My friend is going to let me borrow his HD Drive and I wanted to see if it would work on my HTPC setup. I have a Mitsu DLP TV hooked up to my HTPC via DVI/HDMI as my TV only has a HDMI port. Will this software allow me to play a hd dvd with the xbox drive since my tv and video card are not HDCP complient? Or do I have to rip the dvd to the HD first to play it? I'm hoping I can play it directly from the dvd.

You can play it directly without ripping. This is only if your PC has the power to plus the right powerdvd as well.

What about using WinDVD? Or do I have to use PowerDVD?

As for PowerDVD, you have to have PowerDVD Ultra to play HD DVDs. You can download a program called Cyberlink Advisor at http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/bdhd_support/diagnosis.jsp and run it to see if your system is capable of playing HD DVDs.
