1080p stutters in VLC media player?

I am able to play 1080p m2ts files fine in powerdvd 7 and 8.

When I play the same file in vlc media player, it stutters on the video. Vlc is fine with 720 stuff though.

Is this down to my cpu/ram, a simple codec issue or something else?

Running 2gb ram, AMD phenom 2.1ghz XP.

PowerDVD uses GPU video acceleration. VLC does not.

That`s that then I guess bar getting a new CPU.

It`s a shame as I hate powerdvd and much prefer VLC.
