For the few who care, this update still doesn't fix the problem with the bonus features on Top Gun BD. That makes it 40 days and 2 PowerDVD8 updates without the problem being fixed while both WinDVD and ArcSoft TMT handle the bonus features just fine.

Is Cyberlink even aware that there's a problem?

Is Cyberlink even aware that there's a problem?
I contacted customer support and have a ticket filed and there have been posts made in the forums so, yes, they know.
Maybe if people are blind and they lost my ticket there's a possibility that they aren't aware. I see it more as them just being incompetent. Pretty much business as usual.

Looks like I'll add this one to the collection. I doubt I'll get around to installing it.

2021a had a glitch in it that was annoying at times. You start an SD DVD and instead of the menu appearing you just heard audio with no picture. The solution was to click the Title Menu/Root Menu.
2217 started up with one SD DVD and I was watching the FBI warnings and hearing audio from somewhere else in the movie. Truly odd. I also had it start playing a disc with just black screen and the status bar moved from left to right and when it got to the end after say 10 seconds just sat there. No video. No sound. I had to manually tell PowerDVD8 to go to the Title Menu.

Sounds like PowerCrash is completely loosing control of their software.

So..... still not worth for 60$ to upgrade from 7.3?

That depends. Did you want BD Live to actually WORK once you downloaded it? 7.3 downloads it, but, as I just found out testing Iron Man, it no workie. 8 supposedly does but I don't have it installed right now. TMT works just fine. I don't know if I'd say that's worth the 60 bucks though. I'd almost just rather skip BD Live or use my PS3 for it.

Fixed Iron Man, Hulk and all three Matrix disks for me. So far no issues.

Didn't fix "almost famous". Haven't tried "las 13 rosas" yet.

I'm not surprised. Given the fact that they haven't fixed Top Gun and who knows what else at this point. Strange how my PS3 doesn't need constant updates every week to play things. :)

Here we go again... :)
For me Arcsoft TMT isn't much better... XP & TMT = immediate "explosion", no BSOD, right away into the BIOS start screen. Tested on various machines, ATI, NVidia, SP2, SP3, doesn't matter. Very scary. Maybe a little bit too much "anti-Fernando-debug-protection"? ;)
If it doesn't "explode", TMT is a nice player which I *want* to like because it *DOES NOT DOWNSAMPLE AUDIO* when used with AnyDVD HD. And it plays HD content from folders. Yes, I really, really want to like it, but it just is a little "explosive".
Older TMT builds work fine, just the the last two (three?) versions "explode". Works fine with same hardware under Vista. Really weird.
WinDVD ... OMG, don't get me started. Not as "explosive" as TMT, but it crashes quite a lot, stutters if the Toshiba UDF driver (or the TMT UDF driver) is installed and the download version requires a really nasty product activation.
Nero Showtime is a joke.
PowerDVD has many problems, but it doesn't ... "explode". ;)

TMT doesn't explode for me (running Vista on all my machines) but the audio is a SERIOUS problem. On analog output, I only ever get 2 channel no matter what I set it to. If I could fix that problem it'd be a great player for me as I like the interface and it's lighter on resources than even PowerDVD 7. WinDVD is a horrible piece of software. It came with my Vaio and I only ever use it to test AnyDVD. :D Showtime is history for BD playback anyway, so, let's just count that out. I badly want TMT to get fixed so I can use it for full sound quality playback from my HTPC. :(

I had a similar problem with earlier builds (which didn't explode). Are you using the retail version? Or a trial?

WinDVD is a horrible piece of software.
While I did get a nice rebate on WinDVD9 I also didn't have a choice. PowerDVD7 and PowerDVD8 won't play my Top Gun BD correctly and at the time TMT wouldn't run, period. It is by far not my favorite program in many ways. It's usable but WinDVD is not stable, IMHO.
Showtime is history for BD playback anyway, so, let's just count that out.
I forget which BD I tested in ShowTime and it literally had entire rectangles cut out of it and wasn't viewable. I believe it was Transformers BD. ShowTime is trash.
I badly want TMT to get fixed so I can use it for full sound quality playback from my HTPC. :(
Well, I may end up purchasing TMT with the current situation with CyberLink. This saddens me greatly. I do like the UI a lot in TMT, though. It's changed a lot since I first saw it.
I had really hoped this PowerDVD update would fix the Top Gun BD problem. I really cannot believe it's that hard of a fix.

I have ArcSoft TME which includes TMT retail. It says it's up to date. Build: 2.1.6.121.

Hmm, this one plays all the channels I want under Vista (and explodes on XP). I use ReClock, of course. ;)

I haven't gotten so far as to try it with reclock. I stopped my testing of TMT as soon as I realized I only had 2 channel sound. That's a deal breaker for me on my HTPC. (Not so much on my laptop where I don't really care) I really badly want to get this thing working though. I'll give it another shot and see what I can come up with.

Does anyone else see a problem in having to buy two or three different HD software players just to play all of your discs?
To me, that's nuts.
I hope Oppo's new standalone Blu-ray player that's being developed is just as good as its standalone dv-983H dvd player because this current software playback situation does not make me happy at all.
SamuriHL
23rd October 2008, 17:14
That's why I own a PS3. I never have playback problems on that and I always get crystal clear HD audio that's not downsampled. Nonetheless I like having AnyDVD's abilities when I'm watching movies, so, I'm trying to make the best of the HTPC world. So far, not so impressed, no.

UPDATE: SON OF...................!!!
Ok, the TMT thing is my fault. Somehow my speaker settings got reset in Windows. I reset it and guess what, full surround sound. Idiot. I will resume testing of TMT as I truly like this player. My bad!!

I remembered wrong, it was an issue with seeing mounted isos in VCD with PDVD 8.
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=20563
Quote:
When I install VCD 5.4.0.6 or 5.4.0.8 on my machine (Windows XP x64 edition SP2) it appears to work, a drive letter shows up after a reboot, wenn i mount an .iso image with it, AnyDVD properly recognizes it as a BluRay disc.
PDVD (version 8 ) however claims the drive to be empty. And windows refuses to read from the drive if you just click on the drive letter within the explorer.
This issue doesn't seem to occur when there is a UDF 2.5 driver installed.

I'm sure there must be at least one person who uses the Cyberlink audio decoder for mpeg2 files in directshow players such as Windows Media Player, WMC, Zoom Player, etc. If not, maybe someone could please still test this for me.
After upgrading to the latest PowerDVD patch 2217U, I noticed I cant use the PowerDVD Audio decoder "Cyberlink Audio Decode" in directshow dependent software like Windows Media Player.
Specifically, this filter will not connect to any audio rendering device such as default directshow audio. All previous patches and versions of PowerDVD didnt have this problem and were able to use this decoder just fine. I know for sure, at least version 2021u did.
Please dont confuse this filter with the Cyberlink Audio Decoder. I already know that one doesnt work for mpeg2 audio. I am specifically talking about the "Cyberlink Audio Decode" filter without the "r" at the end.
Can someone PLEASE try this for me? Below is a screenshot showing the graph that I can't do anymore.
Thanks in advance for trying this for me!
EDIT: BUG CONFIRMED: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1078285
Build 2021ua is the newest version that has a fully working directshow audio filter for digital audio.

No audio in WMP, zoom player, and other directshow players which use ac3 (if you plan to use cyberlink audio). Build 2021U is the latest version that has a working external audio decoder; probably the only version that does.

I have no problems with my ISO's in the latest builds of 7.3 or 8. What are you using to mount the ISO's. And when you made the ISO's did you add back in all the missing empty folders that PDVD likes to have in the structure?

Hi, I use Virtual clonedrive with Imgburn ISOs made with UDF 2.5
Today I've decided to do the update and an Image that yesterday worked, today doesn't..
PDVD says "Unvalid format in drive F:", actually the message is in Italian, but that should be the same.
The "Certificate" folder is there with "Backup" in there

I've finally figured out ...
The built-in updater has downgraded the Ultra version to a NON ultra version ... so the "Unsupported format" was the ... Bluray.
Ok so uninstalled, reinstalled and applied the pacth downloaded from the site, now works as before, so... DON'T use the built-in updater :D
thanks for support !
