i'd like to get this software for copying a few of my blu-ray movies, i heard before in this forum that slysoft software doesn't work with panasonic drives, but the blu-ray driive being offered by dell for my m1730 is only a panasonic model (burner).

not sure if anydvd hd will work with it ? also, does clonecd work to copy the blu-ray movie to a blank blu-ray disc or do i need something different ?

AnyDVD HD will work with all BD drives.
Quality of different drive brands is another story and drives in laptops tend not always be the best. In general avoid Matshita (Panasonic OEM) drives.
CloneCD will create an image from a BD but you could accomplish that using the Rip to Image function of the AnyDVD ripper.
As far as I know CloneCD does not currently support burning BDs. You could use ImgBurn to burn with, however.

thanks for answering my questions....

so i take it the drive that is offered by dell (which is a panasonic) will not work with anydvd hd ? the drive currently in my laptop is a samsung (TSST Corp), and i have no issues with anydvd and the drive.

before i spend the 400 bucks on this bd burner, i just need to know if it will work fine, if i posted up the model number, would this help in determining if i will have issues with it ?

do you know if slysoft will offer in the future a disc copier that can handle bd discs ? i take it that imgburn does....

It will work, but it will suck, especially with regular dvds that are not from your region.

Yes

i found an excellent deal on a blu-ray burner for my particular laptop (dell xps m1730) and it is a panasonic (what is it called in japanese, i can't spell it out right, starts with Mat...)

it is an IDE drive, model UJ-110.

for the most part, i use it with anydvd to backup my dvd movies, which are region 1 (US), but would also want to use it to backup my bd region 1 movies.

Matshita (Panasonic oem) burners should really be avoided. They are cheap junk (which is probably why some laptop companies love these drives), die easily, and also suffer from region coding issues. Click this (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=637240&postcount=2)

That would be a Matshita/Matshushita drive which is a Panasonic OEM drive. These brand of drives are historically known to be of cheap construction and poor quality. They are widely used in laptops by many manufacturers including Apple. These drives will function fine with AnyDVD HD for dealing with BDs but their quality and lifespan is questionable. You also don't want to use them when ripping SD DVDs due to the inherent region code issues that exist with these drives unlike any others.

thanks for the input. i am really hesitating to buy a panasonic for this reason. but there are very few other options (sony is one, lenovo is the other) for an IDE interface.

dell doesn't offer another brand for blu-ray. although it's strange that my current dvd burner is a samsung...

i also looked into a decent external blu-ray drive, just curious if anydvd hd will also work with these:

LG BE06LU10 (external USB)

LACIE 301828U (external USB/Firewire)

Not sure if Slysoft is working on it right now or in the near future....

for now i use anydvd + clonecd for movie DVDs

AnyDVD HD works with external DVD drives and works with the XBox external HD-DVD drive so I see no reason why it wouldn't work with those external BD drives. I don't know anything about either one of those drives, however. I am partial to LG drives, though.

That should work fine, although I've never tested it. External drives tend to be more problematic than internal ones.

LACIE 301828U (external USB/Firewire)

I would lean more towards the LG due to traditionally better firmware support.

I believe Slysoft is.

So do I.

thanks for the reply DrinkLyeAndDie....

appearance-wise, the LG looks nicer....but the Lacie has 1394 connection capability, so i'm leaning towards the lacie.

i'll chime in again after i get it to let everyone know if it works ok with slysoft stuff...

WebSlinger, thanks...

i'm not sure if either physical drive will be any hassle with anydvd hd. i knew that Matsushita was a bad drive overall, so i started the thread to see if any other brands/drives have been a problem....

either the lacie or LG will suit me fine, but i was leaning towards lacie because of the 1394 interface.

LG drives *tend* to have better firmware support (but not always).

so what kind of dual-layer bd-r media would work well with bd movies ? there are just a handful of brands, and some are not as expensive as others.

are all bd-r discs the same recordable format (except for single/double layer), or are there discs that work well for movies, while others work well for pc data only ?

Blu-ray blanks haven't been around long enough, I feel, to make a significant judgement call. The Lite-ON 401S, for example, can do burn quality scans with Nero discspeed, but I'm not aware of people fully agreeing on how to interpret those results.

I've been using my Panasonic ones for over a year and they work really well

from what i've seen online, it doesn't look like there are different kinds, just a 25GB and a 50GB. some have HD logos on them, some don't....so i wasn't sure if blu-ray discs are flavored such as are DVD's (DVD+R, DVD-R, etc...).
