Hi,

When is a non beta of the latest Reclock going to become available for commercial use? I have a media centre business and Reclock has solved some problems for us as follows;

Using Arcsofts TMT we found that certain XP based Media Centres have a problem where the playback of a HD movie (mainly but not exclusivley Blu-Ray) will freeze about half way through the film. Up until that point, playback was fine. No system error info is recorded and no amount of improving performance, changing drivers etc, etc made any difference. Out of desperation I tried an old non beta version of reclock (v 1.7). This instantly fixed the problem, but the MCE interface did not like it. Using the current Beta, everything seems to work fine, only trouble is I now need a non beta, non timebombed version I can legitimately use for my customers.

The problem of movies "freezing" for no apparent reason has reappeared after installing the latest version of AnyDVD HD which I note has updates to improve playback in Arcsoft TMT.:bang:

Hi,

There are currently no plans to make ReClock available for commercial use.

Eeek

Does this mean I need to apply for a job at Slysoft next month if I want to keep using Reclock?

Not much of a programmer, but I can sweep the floor.

I do have the cash to buy a non-beta..c'mon, c'mon, c'mon...

Yep. Look at pstrip. It is as techie as hell yet it has been going for years and people pay for it.

Even with the current bugs I am experiencing with Reclock I would STILL pay for it to avoid living in perpetual fear that a "corporate" decision (if I can call Slysoft a corporation!) may see the product time out altogether and disappear!

James has indicated the program is currently free, and there are no plans to turn it into a commercial program at this time. So, enjoy freeware development while it lasts, and be happy.

Even if the program weren't free, as with all Slysoft programs, you just pay once, and updates are free for life.

So, again, don't worry; be happy.

On a personal note, I wish all of Slysoft's programs expired on a weekly basis with a little popup message stating, "Check the forums for the latest beta or official release, and update." That would save me the trouble of having to tell people in the Anydvd forum to update Anydvd. ;) :D

P.S. Electronic Arts wanted to do the same thing for Mass Effect (they wanted you to be connected to the Internet at least once a week as part of a copy protection measure) until people had a hairy fit. E.A. always has the very best ideas.

I just ask that if you stop development and decide not to commercialise, that you either give the product to the community without time restrictions or offer a modestly chargeable version, via this forum rather than the product page, if needed.

I think what has a few of us spooked is the "I doubt ReClock can ever be a commercial product" quote from James. What happens when the betas stop coming?

The time restriction is currently implemented for a simple reason:

People shall test newer betas to find bugs. If betas don't expire, people don't update, or downgrade thinking "last one worked, I don't care if newer versions work or not", which isn't helpful.
Common attitude is "all right, I have some problems, but it is a beta". Well, if I don't know about the problems, how can I fix them?

My statement regarding "no commercial version will be available" was a reply to the OP, who wants to ship ReClock preinstalled for his "media center business".
I don't think we will allow commercial use (resale, bundling) of ReClock.

Thanks James. I fully appreciate your position on the current betas and thanks for the clarification on the "commercial use" point (although my quote was from here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=145732&postcount=1922), not this thread.)
