What is BD-RE v3?

Anyone out there have an idea what is BD-RE v3? I can not get my Blu Ray stand alone to play the BE-RE I have now ( LG 2x) and just noticed it only plays BD-RE v3 any input?

I heard they'd disabled BD-r/re in the last firmware update on the LG set top players
