Hi there.
I successfully copied a blu ray movie to the hard drive but can't figure how to play it back !
Tried several things and have reviewed the FAQS. Can't seem to see the solution.
I am also running Powerlink DVD.
Any ideas or links appreciated.
Thanks

You need to do a few things:
Rip the BluRay to your HDD using the AnyDVD ripper via Rip to Image....
Mount the image using Virtual CloneDrive
Playback the mounted image with PowerDVD and use the virtual drive as the source.

I rip to a hard drive using Anydvd HD, play the movie directly without creating an image with Total Media Theater, using HDMI from an ATI 4850 Video card, with full HD sound into a Onkyo Amp using a 10 metre HDMI cable from another room in the house onto a 50 inch Samsung Plasma whilst controlling the computer with a Wireless mouse from the lounge.
Works great.

winDVD plays ISO images mounted to virtual CloneDrive. I just tried yesterday and was successfull. PowerDVD does not. Total MediaTheatre plays directly from the ripped files but aftre some time TMT stops working and ask for activation code.

PowerDVD most definitely does play mounted images. I do it all the time with PowerDVD7 and PowerDVD8. The majority of people in these forums use PowerDVD.

I used AnyDVD HD to get the movie onto the hard drive. It exists on the hard drive by the title of the movie. The size of the file is abou 41 gigs.
I guess part of my question is can I play it with the programs I have or do I need additional steps and programs as some suggested.
I already have AnyDVD HD and Power DVD. I have tried opening the movie with these programs unsuccessfully. Maybe I am using the wrong mathod or trying to open the wrong file ?
I tink it is already ripped to the hard drive, if I understand that term " ripped ".
It is already on the hard drive; I just can't play it.
Thanks to everyone who has responded. Thanks very much

Your system is similar to mine but I use projector and Denon equipment. I like your way of thinking, keeping it all remore and out of sight. Which file should I try and open with Total Media Theater ? What is it's extension and name ?
Thanks

In my instructions I told you what you needed to do. You should rip to an ISO image, as I instructed, and mount the image using Virtual CloneDrive (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=22376), as I instructed, and then use the virtual drive as the source for playback with PowerDVD, as I also instructed.
Refer here: http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=145278&postcount=2
This isn't an AnyDVD HD issue so it's being moved to the High Definition Software forum.

You can't do that with Powerdvd.
I don't think I made myself clear.
I already have AnyDVD HD and Powerlink DVD.
Using AntDVD HD I copied the bluray movie to the hard drive. Maybe that's called ripping, I'm not sure.
Anyway. I have the movie on the HDD now but can't get it to play, so that's the question. Do I need another program now to get it to run and second which file do I try to open to get it to play ?
Thanks
Bill
PS, I have looked over postings in general but can't find the answer. SOunds like a pretty fundamental thing. I'm sorry if the question is repetitive but I have looked over for the answer and can't find it. Thanks again.

What program do I use to rip to an ISO image ?
I am not trying to cause trouble. I jst got the ANY DVD HD program and I am trying get it to work.
I just don't have enough basic knowlege I guess. Maybe a link to instructions would help. Somewhat detailed instructions at that. I don't want to waste your time; I understand you're busy.
Thanks again for the info.

I will get the virtual clone drive. I understand that is neccessary to playback.
How do I rip to an ISO file ? DO I use AnyDVD HD for that ?
Thanks,
Bill

Unless you have the Arcsoft TMT or the earlier version of PowerDVD, you need to make an ISO image. And then, download Virtual Clone Drive (free) and just double-click on the ISO image.

Open TMT icon on desktop, select source button, open files on hard drive, click on movie title or the BDMV folder, first set settings to full screen, enjoy.

I did that but when starting Powerdvd 8 version 2021 it pops up that a critical update is needed referring to an internet update. After clicking no (Update) it says no drive in the drive (the drive that was mounted with VCD)
What am I doing wrong ?

you don't say what movie you're trying to play, some movies need the later builds of version 8 to play than yours and some need earlier builds

You don't say what build of 7.3 (latest is 4407) or what movies you trying. Also if you'd followed his instructions you'd be using VCD and not DT lite as that's had problems in the past. I'd suggest uninstalling DT lite, and manually uninstalling the SPTD driver and use VCD instead

What popped up the notice of an update? If it was PowerDVD8 then that is because you are using an old version. PowerDVD8 8.0.2217.50 is the latest release.

Narnia which is from 07/08 and build 2021 Powerdvd 8 is from the end of august.
So there should be no problem!

UPDATE:
With 4617, if AnyDVD HD is not running in the background, I get the HDCP error message (switch the cable to analog etc...) on my machine.
With 4407, Blu-ray plays just fine with or without AnyDVD HD running in the background. So, I reverted back to 4407.

It is already on the hard drive; I just can't play it.There are two ways to "rip" - one is to create an ISO which has to be mounted using a virtual drive, and which PowerDvd has no problems playing, The other is to "rip" the file structure and play the .m2ts files directly - you can't do that with PowerDvd since many versions ago. Sounds like you are doing the latter.

If PowerDVD detects Virtual CloneDrive the game is over with playing the ISO
UNLESS

It seems to only have that problem on certain versions of PDVD (oem), I'm using the retail version of 7.3 (4617)and 8 (2217) using VCD 5.4.1.0 and have no problems

i've done what you said here, but when i play the actual movie, powerdvd freezes on me. i can only view the main menu....I use powerdvd v7.3.3319a.
what do i need to do to correct this?
ps: this only happens for all my recent blu ray movies, i can play my older converted blu ray movies from my hard drive no problem (ex: casino royale, etc...).

3319a won't play all the new movies, so you either have to make a 'movie only' version and play that or update your PDVD to the latest and make the films into ISO's
