i kind of doubt this is possible, but i'll ask anyway. is it possible to rip a blu-ray disc, then down convert it so it's burnable to a standard DVD+R?
i was hoping to get my blu-ray library backed up in both formats in case my blu-ray player dies on me.
thanks

Yes, this can be accomplished.
I've moved this to the High Definition Software forum.
I'm not going to provide support in doing this but here's a quick method:
Have AnyDVD HD running in the background
Use BDInfo to see which mpls is the main movie
Rip the main movie to your HDD as an m2ts file using tsMuxeR
Import the m2ts file into ConvertXtoDVD and convert to DVD
The end result will be an SD DVD structure that you can burn to a blank DVD and play on your standalone DVD player. There are some instances where things won't work so easily, as well.
There are others here who can give you more information and other options, as well.
