I am considering buying a Blu Ray burner. Newegg has them for around $225-300. Blanks are about $7.00.

I already have anydvd.

Would I need to get Anydvdhd, and either Clone DVD and or Clone CD? And will this make a true copy including all of the higher rate audio files?

I would be doing playback on a PS3 to a hi def TV.

Thanks.

AnyDVD won't handle HD/BD material. You'll need to upgrade to AnyDVD HD which costs 30 Euros. You can upgrade here: https://secure.slysoft.com/upgrade.php.
CloneDVD has no support for HD/BD.
CloneCD can rip HD/BD to ISO but doesn't yet support burning HD/BDs.

Remember it won't be truly 1:1 because you are removing protections and such but as far as the entertainment content it will be 1:1.

Here is what you need:

BD reader/burner (ie LG GGW-H20L)
AnyDVD HD
CloneCD for ripping or ImgBurn
ImgBurn for burning. Remember to set the UDF to 2.5!!!!
BD-25 blanks (~25 GB) for BDs that will fit on a single layer BD blank.
BD-50 blanks (~50 GB) for BDs that won't fit on a BD-25. These discs have two ~25 GB layers.

Thanks for the quick response.

If I got Clone CD, that would only rip, not burn? Or would it?

Have you found most Blu rays are Single layer (25gb) or DL (50gb)?

Glad to help.

It will only rip to an image when dealing with BDs. I do not know when or if BD burning support will be added. You can also use the AnyDVD ripper[/i] that is built into [u]AnyDVD HD to Rip to Image... to create an ISO image of the BD disc and then burn that ISO with ImgBurn. I forgot to note that in my previous reply.

It really depends on the movie. My BD library is split down the middle in terms of which are BD-25 and which are BD-50 in terms of the original disc.

BD blanks are not the cheapest in the world and BD-50 blanks are much harder to come by than BD-25 blanks. I don't own a BD burner yet.

Most Blu-ray are 50 gb long. Dual layer

Hint Dual layer disc are more expensive than original disc in many cases.

Yes, it's sad when the actual blank media costs more than you paid for the original movie.

I don't own a burner yet because I consider it overly cost prohibitive.

I save my BDs as images on a HDD for later viewing.

But SL BD-r's are coming down in price, I bought some off Ebay spindle of 20 TDK SL BD-r printables which came in around £3.40 per disc including the carriage and so far I've written 14 off at full speed with no coasters. Still waiting for the PIIData disc sto come into stock which will work out even cheaper

Yes, BD-25's are coming down and that does interest me a lot. But then you find yourself needing to either find a way to compress the whole BD you want to back up that is too big or make a movie-only backup which complicates matters.

I'm moving the thread to the High Definition Software forum. The discussion can continue there. :)

Get a blank Blu-ray disk same size as the source Blu-ray ROM disk, 25gb or 50gb.

1. Rip the entire source Blu-ray disk to the hard drive.
2. Burn the ripped Blu-ray disk using Imgburn to an ISO image or burn as a homemade compliant Blu-ray structure using NO COMPRESSION, NO RE-ENCODING,NO DOWNSIZING or BITRATE CHANGE. 1 TO 1
3. Play the back-up disk on a hardware Blu-ray player that is capable of playing homemade compliant Blu-ray structures.

Sad to report that the HDANYDVD iso output for dual layer discs is not PS3compatable for TDK or Panasonic 50gb discs in my opinion

Adbear will disagree with you on the panasonic discs but we all agree that tdk dl discs seem to be an issue.

Does CloneCD give the options to strip out unwanted sections of the disk in the same way CloneDVD does eg Movie Only, or will it only rip the entire source Blu-ray disc in full only, also would enabling the setting to "Remove Annoying Adverts and Trailers" in Video Blu-Ray Settings also give the desired effect to create a movie only rip?
Thankyou in advance.

I think you're confused. :) CloneCD doesn't process the disc at all. It's just a way of making an ISO from a disc. It gives you as close to a 1:1 copy as you can get. But it's not different than using ImgBurn or the Rip to image function in AnyDVD. Your ISO will have any options you choose in AnyDVD. So if you decide to remove annoying adverts and trailers, it'll remove them from your ISO. However, that's not really the same as a movie only rip at all. The content is still there. It only affects navigation on the disc...thus skipping the previews but not removing them. A movie only copy can be accomplished by following the steps in my movie only guide.

OK thanks SamuriHL, so we create one ISO to import into TSMuxer and then create a smaller ISO containing just what you want, regarding the UDF driver you mention is this now included in AnyDvd/HD by default as in the download page information it states Blu-Ray "Provides its own Universal Disk Format (UDF) reader, no need to install 3rd party filesystem".
Thanks.

If you're running XP, you want to install a UDF 2.5 driver such as Toshiba's. (Search the forum, you'll find it). If you're on Vista, it has one built in. AnyDVD includes a UDF reader built in for its own use. Players also include their own. TSMuxer won't. I don't really see the point in creating 2 ISOs, however. I just use TSMuxer on the original disc, output a new Blu-ray folder structure, and create an ISO with that using my folder->ISO guide. Don't waste time ripping an ISO first.

Yep I have to disagree, I've been using the Panasonic DL BD-RE's for over a year on my US PS3 with no problems whatsoever, and my work mate has been using them for the past few months on his EU PS3

Sorry to be a pain SamuriHL, have downloaded all the programs asociated with your BD Movie only guide, one question though, I'm presuming the tsMuxeR.exe is the main program file, but what is the tsMuxerGUI.exe file for, does it also need to be run in conjunction?
Thanks.

tsmuxer.exe is what the tsmuxergui.exe uess to do the actual processing. Run the gui.

AnyDVD HD just creates an image of the original disc minus protections. AnyDVD HD is not creating incompatible output. There's a problem going on somewhere else.
