Can I use this thread to ask a similar audio question?

I have ATi HD 4350 graphics card and a 5.1 sound system. I use The KMPlayer, ReClock and I have the TV connected with a HDMI cable.

Some questions:

- I guess I should select the 5.1 channel setting in the KMPlayer? Would that take care of the sound?

- Does anyone know of a test track (maybe video + audio) that tests each channels/speakers individually? Would appreciate a pointer to such, I couldn't find anything with a quick search.

- What is the output format that the player/ReClock actually sends into the HDMI wire? Is that LPCM?

Ok, fine, sorry.

I will elaborate a bit the first question:

- Setting the sound as "5.1" in KMPlayer actually produced silence.
- Setting the sound as "Same as input (original)" in KMPlayer seemed to work.

Now - I have a 5.1 system, and what happens if the original video has a 7.1 sound?

Also, I noticed from James that this particular card (4xxx) has a problem with 7.1 sound (speakers swapped). I wouldn't want to get bitten by this bug.

So ... in essence I'm asking, how do I get correct sound (5.1) from this setup? :-)

Also, I'm not sure how much this is of ReClock. But I believe ReClock is doing something here so maybe it's a bit about it at least.

I would advise to run KMP in superspeed mode and disable its audio/video transform filters ;)

I personally get choppy audio when the audio one is enabled.

and the video one doesn't do RGB32HQ, so it's pointless :

Ok, this isn't probably a ReClock issue.

But the thing is that the audio (video too) goes straight to TV and from there it goes to the amplifier and speakers. So I don't really know if the speakers output what I would like them to output - there are too many middle men. Still haven't found any good test tracks for it. So, I'm not sure I get 5.1 audio.

Found a test track:

And my system wasn't quite right. Nothing to do with ReClock though I'm sure. So if the mods want, you can remove the thread.

I have another audio question:

Is it possible to send the audio both to HDMI and normal analog out (line out in motherboard), at the same time?

Any way to make this possible?

(I have a passive subwoofer and in my A/V amplifier there is no output for a passive subwoofer, only a pre-out... I might trying to cycle the audio into my other amplifier through analog outputs, which might solve my problem. I have tried plugging the other amp into AV amp but with no luck)

No and no.

only a pre-out...

Pre-Out should be passive out.

Pre-Out should be passive out.

Hmm, no, I believe it should be plugged into an amplifier or an active loudspeaker.

Ahh. You wrote you have a passive Sub, not to need a passive out. Why not connect the pre-out of your HDMI amp to your other amp, where the sub is connected? This should work in my eyes.

Yes, I think it should work, in theory at least. In practice I have gotten only very little sound from this setup and I'm not yet sure where the problem is. I have to keep the volume maxed in the other amp (it wasn't usually like this) and still I get practically no sound from the sub. Maybe the other amp needs to be a mono amp, or maybe I have some settings wrong in my AV amp - will have to play with them a little.

I could also bend the "laws" a little and connect the sub into the loudspeaker terminals (into the same one as one of the main speakers) in the AV amp, although it's not recommended (may harm the amp according to the manual). At least this produces sound from the sub, I've tried it.

Or get an active sub, which seems to be the common way.

Sorry for getting farther away from ReClock, which is a great program btw. (mandatory ReClock reference to justify my post)
