I'm thinking a bout purchasing a blueray player and know they play regular dvd but do they also play dvd+r and dvd-R disk? If so do all brands do this or only certain brands? Thanks

As far as I know all BD drives will also read DVD +/- R as well. I am not sure about DVD -R DL as it is a pretty useless format.
The specs should say what it reads and writes.

Make SURE you get a Blu-ray player that will do what you want it to do.
A player that has the OPTIONS AND SETTINGS that will work for the commercial BD-ROM disks and the homemade compliant Blur-ray structures that you build yourself. And, make sure it will play the type and size of blank media you want it to. Most Blu-ray players will play standard defination material on DVD+R and DVD-R and DVD+R DL.
