Since a majority of titles are over 25 GB, it has been difficult to backup my collection due to the price of blank 50 GB BD-R's. My plan is to copy to a 50 GB BD-RE, and make sure it is okay, then transfer it to a 50 GB BD-R. I just ordered 10 50 GB BD-R's from SmartMedia imports. The total cost, after shipping was $148, or a net of about $14 plus for each. I consider this reasonable, although not perfect. The brand is a TDK. I usually like Verbatim or Sony or even Panasonic, but the prices are crazy. I will try these and see how they do and report back. The price of $59.95 plus $16 shipping for a 5 pack was found on ebay with the seller being SmartMedia imports. When you go to their website, it shows $69.95 plus $16 shipping to the US for a 5 pack of 50 GB - BD R's. They also offer a TDK 50 GB- BD-RE for aound $19 each plus shipping.

Whoa, still so expensive huh?
I guess the advantage of burning discs instead of storing them in a hard drive is that you get to take movies to your friends' places?
I've been thinking, when the Ion chipset comes out, it could be much versatile, and maybe cheaper in the long run, to have a blu-ray playing netbook/mini PC with movies loaded in it. I could do the same with my latptop today, but it's just not as cool :D

At $14 a disc, why not just buy another copy of the movie? I'm keeping my Blu-ray backups on my hard drives until media comes down. $14 a disc? No thanks. I'll just wait until BD-R 50's are $5 each. Even then, it still might not be worth it when I can buy Blu-rays with my ColumbiaHouse membership for like $11 each. Brand new, in the case, PRESSED, not burned Blu-rays.
