MB: ASUS P4S800D-E Deluxe
Graphics: ASUS HD 3650 Silent AGP
Ram: 4 gigs /184 pin DDR DIM SDRAM
SoundCard: SoundBlaster (Creative) X-Fi Extreme Audio
Chipset: SiS 655TX & SiS 964
Front Side Bus: 800 Mhz
CPU: Pentium 4 /3.4Ghz with 'hyper-threading technology'
Raid Support - but Sata is only at: 150mbs
2 Sata 180gig Hard Drives Raid connected - (OS home)
1 LG GSA-H10L DVD drive/burner (never worked great...)
1 (brand new) LG GGW-H20L (firmware updated to: L05)
USB Kensington Optical Trackball
1 MicroSoft PS/2 Keyboard
Monitor: BENQ FP731 (small lcd analog)
Hello - system was barely playing Hi-Def. Upgrade graphics card... CPU load dropped to around 17%
But Sound became 'muddy' or jittery, or slow... has pops, some static... hard to describe. And the video seems to be moving slighly slow...
Uninstall (drivers) for Graphics; and sound is fine. Re-install - sound is bad again... Several re-installs, and searched asus, ati, etc for answers....
If you know of possible solution - would be helpful.
Looking on this forum - 'noted Adbear' stated he had never installed a grpahics card without first doing complete new install of OS.... Haven't done that. Don't really want to. But if it would fix the problem - totally willing....
Thanks for any info.

How are you taking the audio out?
Have you tried updating the HDMI audio drivers form the Realtek website?
If you're taking audio out through the Xfi then disable the ATI sound card

Adbear - Thanks for reply. Xfi is on (part of) Sound card. HDMI is part of graphic card output, and is not being used.
After several complete system rebuilds (starting from formated disk, loading xp. etc.) I now have a couple of reasons, answers.
1. Sound was ok before upgrade replacement of graphics card to fix dropped frames.
2. Conflict exists in my present system - between Toshiba UDF drivers (required); Anydvd free virtual clone drive, sound card, & new graphics card.
3. Fix sound prob; by removing Anydvd free virtual clone drive. Reboot. My system cannot have anydvd free virtual clone drive installed, and no problem with sound. (This problem did not exist untill upgrade of graphics card.)
4. Rocket div free STARPORT emulator does not cause sound problem. (this is free for personal - but it takes a bit to figure out how to load license...)
5. While researching - I read here at slysoft about a few people wondering if UDF worked on XP sp3. It does. HOWEVER:
6. Trying to solve this - I completely rebuilt the system & OS. A brand new LG GGW-H20L was destroyed (I assume) by the installation process. I spent over 24 hours attempting to get the new burner to read UDF. It would read cd's, dvd's, etc. The burner worked fine before rebuilding the system. After rebuild - It never read any UDF Blu-ray. ANYDVDHD declared drive was 'disabled'. (I know an option exists to enable/disable) Finally decided maybe the drive had toasted... turned out to be correct.
7. So - I would suggest that you not have an internal or external blu-ray attached to system while building system completely from scratch. Just a suggestion. And it makes sense (for me) when I read about people struggling to get drives to recognize UDF w/sp3. Possibly they built the system completely from scratch with drive installed. Just a thought...
8. Would appreciate if Slysoft might consider looking at Virtual Clone drive possible conflicts. But my problem is probably rare...
9. Now, I'm looking at ways of simply ripping and removing stuff from blu-ray. Nero9 is a total washout. And I don't understand blu-ray format. (Never understood dvd format either - just figured out how to do stuff using software) So, I will be posting in 3rd party software - looking for some suggetions. After looking around some more here and elsewhere. Have to get back to work on putting in a floor....
Again - thanks Adbear for the reply. My computer's been down for the last few days while I worked on it... If anyone has any questions about the conflict resolution, etc. you can contact me at: spammed3@skybreeze.com

I've been building systems for customers for the most of the past year using XP with X-fi sound cards and LG-GGW-H20L drives, using them to install windows etc and have never had a problem, I also have tested them with Anydvd and VCD and have had no audio problems, I think it may just be that your drive was failing(which in itself is rare as I've built over 300 systems now using these drives with no failures) or that something else on your system is causing the problem. I've built them using Supermicro and Tyan Xeon boards and Intel and Asus standard boards. I've only done a couple using 3650 AGP cards(Sapphire) but have had no audio problems with those either with AnyDVD and VCD installed.
It's quite possible that you just have a bad ATI card that's causing conflicts.
Also if you have XP installed you need to have the UDF driver otherwise you won't see anything on a Blu-ray disc. AnyDVD has it's own driver but is only usable by AnyDVD HD

Adbear -
Thanks for info. I too, have built many systems; but I've finally extricated myself from being computer/hardware support for numerous systems, people. Just a couple of friends now...
I also am aware that quite a lot about computers I don't know. Can't begin to write software... have just built systems starting with DOS ages ago...
On this system - I had no problem with Video or Sound. When moved into HD/BD; graphics card was not sufficient. Video was dropping frames. At recommendation of good people here - I upgraded graphics. ASUS AH3650 is working fine. Am aware of UDF issue and WinXP.
With regards to Virtual Clone Drive... at this point my sound is fine. To screw it up - all I have to do is to install VCD. The sound will be fine, and virtual will work - untill I reboot. After reboot - Virtual clone drive will work - but the sound will be messed. Uninstall VCD; reboot - sound will again be fine.
When I installed the graphics card - the sound messed. (Had VCD installed.) Tried many ways to get everyone to like each other. Eventually rebuilt system starting with only WinXp... (no SP) and worked my way along...
Having to do this several times - I significantly narrowed down the culprit. As is the case with computers, and THOUSANDS of files - little things add up... in this system - the UDF, VCD, and AH3650, and SoundBlaster xfi extreme do not function happily together.
Removal of VCD solves the problem. I am hoping that eventually - with updates, etc. at some point - I will be able to use VCD. But STARPORT works fine... so no loss. Starport sees BD as 'data' files though - which can cause some issues with BD playback. (Up-to-date powerdvd refuse to play for example...) So, I removed the update. So it plays the iso's which starport loads.
Years ago, I built a system which could not use the Diamond Stealth graphics card... since the MB used some of the memory addresses which were reserved for graphics...
I know most systems have no problems with VCD. I had no problems with it - till I upgraded the graphics. But various memory addresses, what is being used by the MB, chipset, etc. can have negative consequences. In this case - it does...
Thanks for the thoughts.

Sound / graphics problems: When exactly? Always? Or while playing back from a mounted image?

Hi James -
Always. Does not matter what is being played, or program/physical device being used to play it... Audio cd, dvd's, even (I believe) the windows wav error files... (those are so short, and I don't 'play' those...
Any type of music or movies on the hard drive, or any audio or movies of any type being played thru a cd drive, or dvd drive, or a hd/bd player or burner...
If VCD is installed (after reboot) the sound will be messed. It has crackles, static... and timing of it will be off.
Uninstall VCD, reboot, and sound will be fine. If I mount an Iso the sound will be messed... But to figure out what was going on with the sound - I was not only dealing with Iso's... I dealt with various sound medium (dvd's, blu-ray, cd's and files, etc.
