what exactly is the difference between blu-ray and HD DVD....is there any way you can play blu-ray on the xbox 360 HD DVD player?

2 Completely different drives. NO, You can only play HD-DVD on the Xbox Drive. I believe LG now makes a burner or player that supports both formats, but it is pricey.

*Very* pricey. It is cheaper to buy a Blu-ray burner and the XBOX360 HD DVD drive.
Or just leave Blu-ray for now and start with HD DVD only.
