View Full Version : Reclock does not work

No matter what I do, there is still judder/stutter. But reclock is always green: saying that it is working. What is going on with this software?

I have a 4 core machine that is only using about 13% of cpu to playback 1080p content. In a two monitor setup I have a projector that normally runs at 60 hz but have reset frequencies to ~48 and ~72 hz to try to sync 23.98 frame/sec material. I can't get exactly 48 or 72 using powerstrip: more like 47.98 etc. When I tried to set these frequencies in the Nvidia control panel it failed: presumably since it couldn't lock on exactly 48 or 72.

I have a NVidia 7950 GT video card.

Reclock says that it is syncing the video in CINEMA mode solid green icon) but there is still obvious judder. I played with the vertical retrace stuff but that didn't help either. My vertical retraces were all nicely bunched up on the top of the screen.

My audio is a simple stereo which is being output through SPDIF to a digital to analog converter (but I'm not passing AC3 or anything like that: the processing for the downconvert to stereo is being done in Windows.)

Does this software really work? What else is there to try? Any other products that can do this? This is a fairly hi end machine and I can't even play video smoothly?

What is your display?

Is it really displaying 48 or 72hz? Or is it converting back to 60hz internally at the display, wrecking everything?

If you have one lying around, I suggest testing on a CRT monitor to make sure it's not the PC. A CRT monitor CANNOT mess with the display frequency. What you send it is what it displays.

I don't have a CRT around... :-)

The projector claims it is seeing a 48 hz input when I select the input on the projector. But how could I know what it is doing inside?

It is an Optoma HD70 projector.

It is quite common for displays to only be able to actually display a very limited range of frequencies. It is very common, for example, for PAL Tvs to accept 48Hz but butcher it to display @50Hz.

Do you know yours can display @48Hz? It is a fairly old (in HD terms), fairly budget display, unlikely to be cutting edge in features; The review I read only mentioned 60Hz. It may well be it is being forced to accept 48hz but is simply crudely repeating frames to get back to 60Hz.

I would start by trying to find out if any owners have your PJ working @48Hz without stutter.

I THINK I have this working OK with 50 hz: still testing. It works better than 48 or 72 or 60 though. But now I have to watch movies 5% faster than normal...

Well, this is nice. I finally just uninstalled reclock because it didn't seem to do anything: 60 hz looked BETTER than 48/50/72 for 24 hz material with reclock on...

After I uninstalled it, I rebooted and windows vista crashed. And now there is no audio to any of my files. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the Klite codec pack but no use.

I am now reinstalling Windows. This is getting so tiresome. A Blueray player would just work and wouldn't judder.
