Hello everybody, I want to start out by saying that I have been using Anydvd and now Anydvd HD for a long time now and they are the best of there kind. Now yesterday I made a complete rip to my harddrive of Talladega Nights ( Blu-Ray ). I then burned it as a Blu-Ray Data Disc , on a BD-RE with Nero. With the latest firmware 1.60 on the PS3 installed the PS3 reads the disc as a Blu-ray Data disc and lets you open all the folders, BDMV, etc, when you get to the stream folder , the largest file is the movie , click on that and it will play just fine in all its HD glory. There are no menus or chapters just the movie. I just thought some of you might want to know this and try it yourself.8)

Very interesting to hear, so do you need this supposed nero plugin to burn the blu ray data disc, or is it part of the free update for nero 7 enhanced? I am assuming that the plugin isn't needed since it is simply burning a data disc.

No Plugin needed just the nero 7 enhanced update

I burned a back-up with Roxio DVDit Pro HD on a BD-RE disc. Inserted the disc into v1.60 PS3 which sees the disc as a proper Blu-ray, and plays it perfectly, menus and everything.

that's all to expensive! there have to be a way to rip the bd-movie on a PS3 Harddisk! :-(
but it's good to hear that a ripped blu-ray movie is running on a ps3 v1.60. But not v1.50 or?

BD-RE support was added in OS v1.60. So no, BD-REs won't work on 1.5x.

DVDit Pro HD is a very expensive program ($500), but it is still encouraging to know that it is working and that an actual backed up disc copy works.

Another question involving backing up and playing movies using the data disc method-can you write to a 50gb rewritable disc with Nero?
colinhunt

I think you need to find a BD-RE 50GB first :)

I have seen a few on the net for around $80-$100, so unless a come across a cheaper one I think I'll wait awhile. The best case scenario for me, and I am sure many others is to stream the content to a media extender, but at the moment there are no media players out there that can handle the high bit rate, at least to my knowledge, and I have looked hard. I am hoping the Dlink DSM-750 will be able to do the job. Then I can simply rip it to the hard drive and stream it.

I recently purchased a Panasonic LMBE50DE 50GB Blu-ray RE Disc from Amazon for $ 49.13. I know its still alot of money but I wanted to experiment, and yes Nero will burn to it .

Ahh... I was looking for them in Japanese stores and couldn't find any, so I thought they weren't available yet. Good to know they're out there, though expensive as all hell.

Hi,
sorry for a rookie question  ...
is there any chance to use the BD-Drive in the PS3 with my notebook - e.g. over WLAN or LAN - to rip a BD with AnyDVDHD? Or is a separate BD-Drive for my PC a "must have" for this work ?
colinhunt
25th March 2007, 08:31
You need a separate BD-drive.

I also have DVDit PROHD and I'm trying to burn a blu-ray bd-re and play it back on my PS3 with 1.60 update.
The PS3 won't read my disc.
I'm trying to burn a video that I made in Final Cut Pro HD. This was shot in HDV and transferred as a Quicktime file to DVDit ProHD and then burned on a Sony blu-ray BD-RE.
What could I be doing wrong.

^^ Did you try to play the files on HDD or BD-RE with PowerDVD first to verify that that the content is actually Blu-ray compliant?

No, but I played it on a $1500 Pioneer blu-ray player and it played with no problem.
I'm not sure why it would not be complient. I'm using DVDit pro HD software, using the Panasonic SW-5582 Blu-ray burner, and I'm burning it to a sony Blu-ray BD-RE. Unless the DVDit Pro HD software does not burn a Blu-ray complient disc, I'm at a loss.
The PS3 also does not play DVD-R Discs.

Your PS3 should certainly be capable of playing DVD-R discs. If not, then something is wrong with your player.

The BD-RE works on a Pioneer, but not on the PS3? Definitely something's up with your PS3, then. Have you upgraded to v1.60?

That would rule!

Because Blu-ray movies and PS3 games are two quite different beasts. Different copy protection schemes etc. AnyDVD HD can do nothing about PS3 games.

Do the ripped (and burned) backups of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movies still contain AACS encryption, and require HDCP hardware... or does AnyDVD HD sift that crap out during the ripping?

Ok I am a newbie so do not beat up on me please:)
How did you rip the movie exactly. What was the hardware used. Thanks:)
Also is ther a way of connecting the Ps3 on a home network or directly to a Pc to use the Ps3 as a blue ray disc reader and then burn the images to my pc hard drive using any dvd. Some have suggested this but I can not find any links on how to do this specefically Any help appreciated

YES
it is almost NOT worth doing unless you want to prove you can.
Even after you get the files over to the PC, you'll need to:
MOUNT THE IMAGE VIA NERO (latest)
RIGHT CLICK ON ANYDVD HD AND RIP FILES TO HD
ELECARD XMUXER TO PICK THE DD5.1 AUDIO AND REMUX W/ VIDEO
HDTV2MPEG TO SPLIT TO 4GB FILES
VLC PLAYER EACH PIECE TO ENCAPSULATE TO "PS" (Program stream)
Not only is there a 4GB FAT32 limitation, the PS3 will only play the sound back as DD 2.0.
Oh and this will ONLY work with MPEG2 encoded movies, not VC-1 or AVC
best to wait when burners and blanks are cheaper
Darn - that Planet Earth deal at Amazon is looking awful tempting.
And the reason why Lawrence of Arabia (and all other Columbia / TriStar / MGM titles ) will NEVER be released on HD-DVD is cos Sony OWN them!
Blu - Ray will win the format war cos of this reason alone.
Unless dual players become a standard.

I did a google search and found numerous links. You have to look through the links that offer you the solution with the PS3 and Linux.
I wasn't trying to insult anyone in my last post, many people want to be told how to do when this information has been posted on other forums for the PS3. This forum will not yield that kind of information, but the PS3 sites will.
Here is a good PS3 site with the information you seek:
http://ps3.ps3news.com/ Look for the direct PS3 Blu-ray Guuide.
There you will find your Step-by-step instructions:
PS3NEWS.COM PS3 BLU-RAY DISC IMAGiNG iNSTRUCTiONS
Upgrading your PS3 to v1.10 Firmware
Installing Linux FC5 & AddOn to the PS3
Dumping PS3 iSO Images via Linux on the PS3
Transferring your PS3 iSO Images to your WinXP PC
Please be aware, even after completing all of this, without a Blu-ray burner you will have new issues to work through.
Enjoy
I'm just gonna rent um from Netflix and send um back!
What we need is a Movie Rhapsody where for $20 a month you can download to your PS3 or Xbox any number of HD movies and just watch um. Then you have access to millions of movies at your fingertips - which is all anyone really wants, right?

Small but incomplete guide to get AVC (yes AVC) and MPEG-2 bluray movies to play on PS3. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SPLIT UP FILES
1. Dump movie in linux to either the ps3 or to an external hard disk drive(EXT3 Formatted) note:if you use external hd, you also need to install ext3 filesystem on your windows machine before it will read Ext3
2. Transfer over to computer(Hard drive or samba)
3. Mount disk image with daemons tools or nero image drive
4. Right click Any DVD and rip blu ray to hard drive
5.(OPTIONAL) Use TSremux.exe (found at www.doom9.org and is very straight forward) to get rid of unwanted audio and\or subtitles on main movie(biggest .m2ts file in the STREAM folder
6. Install a file server on pc of decrypted Blu ray(Red Kawas File Server works good)
7.Boot to PS3 xmb and use the internet explorer to "download" movie to PS3's hard drive.
8. Works on everything but vc-1
Good luck

Good luck indeed, assuming you have the space on your PS3 to download the movie. I've noticed that and I was thinking about re-doing my PS3's hard drive to load Linux in the 10GB partition space to have more space for the PS3 downloads. But again, it's a lot effort everytime you want to view a Blu-ray movie. It's the age old choice between "a lot of time vs. too little money" to buying the real movie.
I'll re-evaluate after I upgrade my audio for Blu-ray movies, but I have found some great Blu-ray movie deals where my cost for a movie is down to under $17. I found one deal where I got a Blu-ray movie for under $9. I'm on a roll now.

I've you've ripped a BD movie to your PC hard disk, there are other ways to get it to your PS3 besided burning it on an expensive BD disk just to watch it once or twice. There's wireless networking (probably a little slow for that), and there's USB devices (they just came out with a 160GB external usb hard disk for PS3).
Has anyone seen a thread on how to use AnyDVD to backup PS3 games?

The USB devices don't support files larger than 4GB as it uses FAT32 and it's not possible to play back ripped games on a PS3 yet. Also just use re-writables if you want to burn to discs

Can BD-RE still playback on the PS3 I have the latest 192 or 193 firmware in and it will not recognise the disc.
BDMV was recognised yesterday in PS3 with the same disc but I read the ISO and Wrote the ISO with ImgBurn (yeah I knew it would not play just wanted to see if it recognised the disc) it did.
Today I ripped it with AnyHDVD and burnt it with ImgBurn and it does not even get recognised in PS3 but it plays fine in cyberlink player that came with pioneer blu ray writer.

It seems some burned blu-ray movies dont work on the ps3 still.
Premonition is one of them, there were 2 others i encountered but i dont remember the names.
It recognises the disc and a movie and starts to play it (you see the play symbol appear in bottom left of screen) but the screen is just black.
Trying to view the menu or skip to chapters does not work.
I was unable to test with the original movie so i dont know if its just these movies dont play on ps3, or a backup issue.

Nope the certificate folder is nothing to do with the AACS, on some films (Pirates of the Caribbean for example) if you don't put on the certificate folder they don't work, I think the certificate folder is something to do with BD-J.
