View Full Version : Help! AnyDVD HD is useless on my newest blu-ray discs

I just tried two of my latest blu-ray discs "Street Fighter" and "12 Rounds". Both cause AnyDVD HD to produce errors in decryption. This happened on my AnyDVD-HD version from May; and, when I decided to upgrade to the latest beta version 6.5.6.4, it still does the same thing after a reboot. This happens on both of my unlike Blu-ray ROMs.

Can someone please help figure out what's wrong? This is the first time that I have ever had a problem this bad with AnyDVD-HD.

If you took the time to look around you'd notice this stickied thread in the AnyDVD HD forum: Discs that do not work with Anydvd HD 6.5.6.4 beta (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=29820).

It lists the known problematic discs with links to the existing discussion threads or the logs posted in the * Official BD+ Log Only Thread * (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=29127) thread. Both your discs are listed. If you do a forum search limited to the AnyDVD HD forum you will also find existing discussions on 12 Rounds and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.

Another thing to keep in mind about some of these new problematic discs is that it's not only AnyDVD HD that might be having problems.

The only standalone Blu-Ray player that I am aware of that can play 12 Rounds is the PS3 with the latest v2.80 firmware. My Oppo BDP-83 won't play it. The only software players that will play it are the latest versions of PowerDVD8 and PowerDVD9. I don't believe that the latest Arcsoft update can but I suppose it is possible. Corel most definitely can not play the BD.

I have no idea about the other discs playing on a standalone player but my real point here is that even companies who produce software players and companies who manufacture and sell standalone Blu-Ray players are having issues and they are in a better position to get information to make their product work with the newer releases than Slysoft is.

All that is required is some patience.

Yeah, Samsung supports 12 rounds.

12 Rounds has been reported to not play on JVC XV-BP1, Pioneer BDP-51FD, and Oppo BDP-83 players. Oppo will be releasing a firmware update at some point. Seems likely that JVC and Pioneer will as well.

Well, instead of making everyone jump to produce firmware (and software player) updates, 20th Century Fox could take its head out of its . . .

Nevermind

You would think they would get advance notice so they could have the patches ready in time for the release.

Imagine if 20th Century Fox pulled this crap on Star Wars or Aliens . . .

And they wisely put that legal boilerplate at the beginning of each disk saying that you might have to update your player to work with the latest disk. This both puts the onus on the hardware manufacturers to keep up with the software and prevents (at least they hope so) class action lawsuits from consumers claiming false advertising.

It's hard for me to see how Blu Ray can stay a viable format in the long run with these kinds of consumer obstacles put in the way.

The more discs that won't play in standalones on release, the better, as far as I am concerned: it wouldn't be long before the public backlash forced the studios to change approach.

I'm also concerned at the lack of care in transferring many catalogue titles transparently to the theatrical presentations: it's like the studios think any old rubbish is good enough for the consumer. I almost believe they want Bluray to fail, now their much vaunted DRM has been cracked and is becoming a millstone around their necks, so they can introduce the next better-protected format.

Amen to your first point

Yes, I'm well aware of how this forum works, just like everyone else on this forum. I have never had issues with ANY discs in the past as they came out. All of a sudden, both discs I got in the mail didnt work. I guess, I should lower my expectations these days.

So, the expectation is that any disc you receive in the mail will always work? With BD+ that's not going to be the case. It takes them time to update AnyDVD to get the latest BD+ titles to work. It will get resolved, but, it's not necessarily going to be quick. Past history should have shown you that. Sometimes it requires months to update AnyDVD for BD+ titles.

Yes, I'm well aware of how this forum works

If you did, you wouldn't have bothered posting. You would have read first instead and not bothered us with a known issue.
