Trouble with Verbatim Double Layer discs

Hi,

I’m having trouble with Verbatim DVD+R DL. I’ve tried about 50 discs and am getting over a 90% failure rate at the transition points (pixelizing and freezing). I didn’t start watching the DVDs until recently so I wasn’t aware of the issue. I’ve gotten the same problem on both recorders (Asus DRW-1814BLT SCSI and LG Bluray HL-DT-ST-RE H20L SCSI). Both recorders got very high marks from NewEgg, so I hope that isn’t the issue. I’m slowed down the recording rate to 6x without much improvement and considering slowing down again to 4x. In full disclosure, I purchased these discs from a vender on ebay so the media might have been tainted.

Any thoughts on why it’s occurring, what to do, and/or from whom to buy would be appreciated.

BTW, if this helps diagnose my issue, my Taiyo Yuden DVD-R (single layered) have an over 99% success rate.

I`m not sure if I have the exact same Verbatim DVD+R DL disc`s that you have but mine have a 2.4 x burn speed written on them. I always thought that DL DVD`s need to written at a much slower rate.

I’m slowed down the recording rate to 6x without much improvement and considering slowing down again to 4x.

a) Do not burn higher than 4x.

b) Try Clonedvd 2.9.2.4 beta: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=208417&postcount=1

c) I prefer using Clonecd with +R DL blank media: click http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=327
(I never have problems)

d) Update your burner's firmware (if available)

e) Use Anydvd 6.5.7.2 beta: click http://sandbox.slysoft.com/beta/SetupAnyDVD6572.exe
(If you don't own Anydvd, you can try the program for free for 21 days).

f) If you're using +R, +RW, or +R DL media, change the booktype to "dvd-rom" before burning:

g) Post an Anydvd .zip lof file using a commercial dvd in your burner:

i)Ensure Anydvd is running.
ii) Put the original movie dvd in your burner. Wait for Anydvd to scan the disc.
iii) Right click the red fox icon on your toolbar.
iv) Select "Create Logfile"
v) Wait for Anydvd to create a log file.
vi) A pop-up screen will appear. Take note of the location where Anydvd created the logfile and the logfile's name. Click "ok".
vii) Windows Explorer will open, and you will see a zip file called "Anydvd_Info_titleofmydisc.zip" (or something similar; see step f)
viii) When replying or posting in the Slysoft forums, look for the icon that looks like http://forum.slysoft.com/images.slysoft/editor/attach.gif (in other words, look for the paperclip after clicking "quote" or when creating a new thread)
ix) If you don't see that paperclip icon, click the "go advanced" button. You should see that icon now. Click the paperclip.
x) A small pop-up screen should appear (if it doesn't please ensure your browser is enabled to allow pop-ups from the Slysoft forums)
xi) Click the "Browse" button, and locate and select the .zip file you created.
xii) click "upload"
xii) Close the window. When you submit reply, or submit a new thread, the .zip file will be attached automatically for us to take a look at

4x should work fine

If it doesn't I would try Clonecd instead.

And if you want further help, provide the Anydvd .zip file as I requested.
