locoeng,

I set my region to 1(where I live), but it still doesn't work. I have the latest version of AnyDVD(6.1.1.4) downloaded today, and the trial version of CloneDVD, downloaded two days ago. The original disc(Saw III) "appears" to be clean and undamaged, but it continues to stop reading @ 10%.

Answering the questions may help me and others help you further.

I suspect there's a very good chance you've come across a quality control issue with the original disc. Exchanging it may help. It doesn't matter if it seems clean and undamaged; it could still be a bad disc.

Try scanning the disc with VSO Inspector, if it detects any errors or bad secotrs then you have a bad source disc and I would take it back and exchange it.

Is there a guide that you know of somewhere for VSO Inspector? I ran it on a disk the other day and was wondering what the errors mean. There were two of them and it stated the code was 00 00 00 00.

But...after the updates of 6.1.1.4 I was still able to process this disk after doing a reinstall of my software.???? ????

I copied this disc sucessfully with version 6.1.1.3 using clonedvd2 to rip. So I say bad disc. Clean it try again and then if it fails return it for another.

@webslinger

Has the updated 6.1.1.4 resolved the full disc issues?

@rossterman

Are you backing the full disc or movie only?

Has the updated 6.1.1.4 resolved the full disc issues?

Yes, provided you're using Clonedvd2, Nero Recode, or Clonecd. I'm not sure about Shrink or 1-Click yet.

Full disc. What is VSO inspector?

locoeng
29th January 2007, 22:13
It will basically give lots of information about your system...including the quality of your source disc.

Using this freeware, you can check the listed cd and dvd readers and writers connected to your computer, check the firmware used. The details about the media used and the speed supported by a given writer with this media.

I'm sure if Recode won't work neither will Shrink...

Actually, initial reports were that Anydvd 6.1.1.3 and Nero Recode could do a full disc backup of Saw 3, while
Shrink couldn't. I don't know if the Shrink problem was due to the bug in Anydvd 6.1.1.3 or not. It's possible Shrink will do a full backup with Anydvd 6.1.1.4, but I'm not certain.

Regardless Clonedvd2 and Clonecd will do full disc backups of Saw 3 Region 1.

Keep in mind there were a lot of quality control issues with Saw 3 Region 1 (some discs are just bad, and need to be exchanged).

Sorry about editing your previous post. I thought I was editing mine.

I have a R1 uncut version of Saw III and have had no problem in backing up the full dvd and extracting just the movie. Would agree that you probably have a bad original.

Regarding the users of DVDshrink - why? Everybody knows that it's at least a year out of date, and can't cope with the newer protection formats. It stopped being useful when the author sold out to Nero (now known as Nero Recode) and no further updates were done to Shrink.

It took me five times trying....could not do it with dvd shrink. Tried the fifth time with an old "ICopyDvDs2" program and backedup fine. I think it's a disc issue....had the same problem with the Illusionist. Every once in a while it happens. I have had probably six discs in over 1200 backups not be normal

First you need to have 6GB of free space on your hard drive, you have to have good computer P4 with 256MB or 512MB, if you don't have a good runing computer the software will not work right.

Hi,

An half year ago I bought a disc and got some errors, too. Not while work with slysoft products with the disc, but it seemed to be ok, but wasn´t ok. In other drives it didnt work, too. I brought the disc back to the store where I´ve bought it and got a new one that worked. No scratch was on the bad disc and no dirt... It isnt so that a disc that seems to be ok optically, has to be ok from the sector structure, automatically...

Guess I'm one of the luck ones. I was able to rip saw3 with no problems using 1click 5.1.0.7 and anydvd 6.1.1.4

When recording SawIII .. fully ; using anydvd(latest ver) and another brand of recording program, it would only allow a very low %, about 5%, and the prog would sit idle.. as the time counter would increase. The only way I could record was to do movie only. During playback, there are 2 spots that pause just for a split second and then continue playing.... It does seem quite odd that the recording programs will only read to a certain point.. The original disk is perfectly clean and clear .....

If you could answer these questions for me, I would really appreciate it (you're the only person I've come across who's stated he has had no problems with Shrink and Anydvd):

1) So you used nothing but Anydvd 6.1.1.4 and Shrink?

2) You included the original menus, trailers, extras, etc.?

3) You did not have "Remove annoying adverts and trailers" enabled in Anydvd?

Not a problem...I think I edited after rereading your response to my question and can't really remember exactly what I posted. No harm no foul.

That sounds like it was just a bad pressing from the factory...it happens. Usually doesn't matter what software you use, a bad press will bring anything to it's knees.

Webslinger,
The only way you can use AnyDVD along w/ Shrink is to insert VobBlanker or FixVTS after the rip and before you use Shrink. If you try it w/o one of those programs then you will get an error. Just try it w/o them and then try it w/ them.

Like they said.. check out the other threads about Saw3 and Open Season. Both have some new copy protection. It seems that AnyDVD and Clone DVD combined can rip it (or at least the main movie) but theres something new afoot with these two titles.

Webslinger,
I knew you were not having problems but the method I posted FYI will do the movie using Shrink. Maybe the other person forgot to mention they had to use another program to clean up the bogus cells

I used AnyDvd along with Roxio 8 using a dual layer blank DVD and was able to copy Open Season with no problems. I tried using Shrink first but failed no matter what I tried to do. Any way, I have a perfect copy.

Just to clarify how I made a backup of SAW III unrated R1
I used another decryption method
[Not AnyDVD ver. 6.1.1.4 error before Shrink could analyze]
Used Shrink for compressing.
Perfect FULL BACKUP all annoying trailers, menus, etc…

With out getting into to much detail here's how I made a couple copies of Saw III unrated, just the movie.

I have the latest versions of all software, except Nero which is almost the latest of version 6. I also have a LG external, and a Plextor internal burners.

With AnyDVD off I used Ripit4me and it's related programs. Shrink would run, but not burn the copy. It kept saying I had a bad blank disk in either burner???? I tried Verbatim, and Taiyo Yuden disks. Shrink did create all the files in my burn folder, so I tried using Nero to make a DVD video disk. Burned and plays just fine.

I then left Anydvd running and ran RI4M again and shrink burned the disk just fine and it also plays on other DVD players.

Last night I was finally able to copy Saw III Unrated with AnyDVD 6.1.14 and Nero 7 Premium. I made an exact copy on a dual layer disc. I was not able to do so with AnyDVD 6.1.0.7 so I am glad it is working now. Thanks Slysoft!
