Is anyone else having a problem burning DVDs using the TS-H552L DVD burner. Most of the time lately it seems to stall out while burning. It does eventually finish but the burned surface of the disk has dark rings. Most of the time the backed up movies play fine but I have wasted quite a few blanks with this problem. Also I've been using the same blanks for over a year now so unless this is just a bad batch I'm pretty sure it's not the Sony brands DVDs.

1. Update your burner's firmware (if available)

2. Use good quality media

3. Try lowering your burn speed (not below 4x; if you have a 16x burner and 16x rated media try writing to it at 12x instead of 16x)
4. If you're using +R, +RW, or +R DL media, change the booktype to "dvd-rom"
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=476 (step 3)
5. Avoid sticker labels (they tend to cause problems)
6. Try setting a custom size of 4300 in your burning program (but if you're using good media, you shouldn't have to)

Bad burn quality is notorious around the end of discs
and also at layer breaks when using low quality DL media (use Verbatim +R DL media, and change the booktype to "dvd-rom")

Those Samsung units are known to have problems. You can try all the stuff that is listed in the above post but my bet is the unit is going South.

Thanks all, I've found that if I lower the speed to 6X the discs burn fine. Unfortunately there's no firmware upgrades out so until then I'll just have to wait a little longer while they burn

Try some different media.
