View Full Version : New PowerDVD Patch
bingobill
16th May 2007, 16:17
Update list:
Support nVidia GeForce 8500/8600 series hardware decoding
Support ATI X2000 series hardware decoding
Here (http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/download/patches_112_ENU.html)
This patch can only be installed on PowerDVD Ultra build 2605.
How do I determine the PowerDVD build number?
To find the build number information of PowerDVD, check the About dialog. The About dialog can be accessed by:
• Pressing keyboard combination key Ctrl+A
• Clicking CyberLink logo on the UI
When the About dialog is open, drag your mouse cursor to the user name field and click your mouse button.
The version and build number generally might look like "7.0.2414". The number "7" is the major version number; "0" is the secondary version number and "2414" stands for the build number. The build number is useful for determining if it is necessary to install a patch. If the build number of the patch program is larger than the one on your current program, then you may want to apply this patch to your current program.

Same here, on XP, typical, just bought myself a 8600GTS too :(
On the the other hand I just managed to source a Toshiba SD-H802A HD DVD-ROM Drive, been looking for ages for an internal drive, don't like things hanging off my HTPC, can finally get rid of the noisy XB360 drive.
Now i will have internal HD DVD and Blu-ray drives :)

Am I the ONLY one who didn't get an error when installing this update?!?!?! How is that possible? I ALWAYS have problems! :D
I can't install it on XP... :(
I installed it successfully on Vista 32. It still doesn't play 'Stomp the Yard' but at least now I get an error message that I'm reporting to Cyberlink as requested. If this doesn't get fixed soon I'm going to have to change my id from roog to stomp.

Yep
Failed in XP with a couple of errors. Possibly to do with the "provenance" of the original install perhaps?

Yeah, I'm getting the Error 1334 during installation a couple of times, then finally a "Feature transfer error -1603 Fatal error during installation".

I just found the solution. I found this at the cyberlink forum. It now installs fine. I could not do step 3 but it still worked.
"It's hard to install this patch.
You can check linkage.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10557909#post10557909
Or you can do below steps that support told me how to handle it.
1. Uninstall PDVD Ultra
2. Install Microsoft cleanup too and execute from "Start\all programs\WindowsInstaller Cleanup" To check if PDVD is on product list, If you can see PDVD in product list. Select PDVD and click "Remove" button to clean up PDVD.

4. Reboot PC.
5. Install PDVD Ultra 7.3 then apply 2911 patch."

Thanks a lot!
The good news: With this method I was able to install the patch.
The bad news: Blu-ray playback no longer works (not from disc or folder, has nothing to do with AnyDVD). HD DVD seems to work fine.
So I recommend to skip this "update". :(

FFS, what's the matter with these people?. Surely by now they they know about this Blu-ray problem, and yet the patch is still available for download.
Does the startup screen still say HD DVD and Blu-ray on it?

Do you think they were trying to block playback of BD rips or are they just incompetent?

Well, I got it all working now, Blu-ray also.
1. I did the cleanup operation as described above.
2. Installed THIS VERSION (http://isales.gocyberlink.com/download/CS_Dept/PowerDVD/CyberLink.2605b_TaRe2_MSI_DVD061206-02.exe) User name: PowerDVD Password: L7uF6366
3. Installed this version CyberLinkPowerDVDUltra.exe, This is the one with the blue 'Ultra' flash on the startup screen, sorry don't have a link to this, I have it stored on my PC.
4. Installed the patch with no errors.
This is what I end up with
PowerDVD Ultra(7.3)

I thought we established already that they're a bunch of idiots. :D I've been a loyal PowerDVD fan up until this release. After spending 100 bucks on it, I can honestly say I truly hate this version. Every patch you think to yourself "ok, maybe they finally got it right." And then, we get these kinds of experiences. It's ridiculous. I don't find it amusing in the least that a product so ridiculously expensive has had SO many problems.

I suggest that everyone register their complaints to Cyberlink.
Any lawyers out there? How about a Class Action suit against Cyberlink in the US?
I've given up for now!

Now I'm going to the extreme! I'm going to reinstall Vista and try again from scratch!

Why cant they just release a single update .EXE to take care of this problem instead of going through all this jazz?
You dont necessarily need this new patch unless you have a GeForce 8500/8600 or ATI X2000 anyways..right?
Due to the overwhelming popularity of consumers finding a way around these stupid copy protection attempts you would think that some one in power would grow a brain and finally say enough is enough...
The resin they keep upgrading power DVD to the latest but not the greatest is because the movie industry (ie MPAA) has there hand up Powerdvd @ss...
Like some type of F*ck puppet they comply and have to lock in stern on there prices... They have to charge more because of the copy patten holders don't pay and wont pay for what the get as far a a new copy protection device... Its almost like there educated but have lost there intelligence...
The whole proprietary rights crap is a joke and they know it but the resin it exist is because they have to alienate some one when they file there taxes...
The movie keeps reporting record loss and therefore avoids the tax man...
Because loss is unpreventable in business the corporations have found a way to use that as a bend to escape all tax related locks...
Now I own a business fixing computers but have seen that if My losses were equal to or grater then the tax owed I didn't have to pay them...
So I know that that's the game they have been playing for the last 20 years and it is sick but WTF are you going to do about it...
The only way your going to get a good working software is to open source a HD/Bluray-DVD paying software... Open the corporate code and expose it all over the net... making there proprietary rights just a feather light as they are...
Amen!
I suggest that everyone register their complaints to Cyberlink.
Any lawyers out there? How about a Class Action suit against Cyberlink in the US?
As far as this idea goes the software vendor isn't the problem it is the MPAA that the problem lies...
So yes a class action law suit would work but only if you could get a petition signed by half or more of the people who use said software's that are mind controlled by the MPAA... in the end you will be suing the MPAA ...
(binding arbitration is a bitch that's why you need the signatures)
So use this method to bring the giant to its knees...
I think that some one should contact the EFF if they are serious about suing the MPAA...
James

Not if you don't want to play movies with the latest protection scheme.
If you have AnyDVD HD running, you can use old player software with new movies, because AnyDVD HD *removes* the protection. :D
BTW, I gave up on the new PowerDVD patch, as the most popular bugs (where are the HD HDVD "A, B, C + D" remote keys?) still aren't fixed.

bingobill, you're the man!
The full version got me back in the Blu-ray game.
All Blu-ray titles I've tried, except for the cursed 'Stomp the Yard', are working.
FYI, I uninstalled the previous 2605b/2911 version first and then deleted the files that referenced Cyberslink in the 'C:/Program Files/InstallShield Information' directory.
Just so others will know, to find them, I opened the directories there and looked at the various files by opening them with notepad. I searched for Cyberlink and if I found a reference to it I deleted that directory.
Kudos and many thanks!

You can blame the MPAA for a lot of things, but it isn't the fault of the MPAA if Cyberlink is unable to make working software.

"We all make mistakes" ((c) LOST)
I wouldn't criticize Cyberlink too much. The current situation is that PowerDVD is the only program in the world which allows you to watch unencrypted HD content produced by AnyDVD with all the features it has. If Cyberlink takes an offence, it might dive in to AACS LA pressure and pull this functionality from PowerDVD. What we will have to do then?
BTW, the same reasoning applies to Slysoft too.

After uninstalling the old one it removed half my start menu so could some one please goto:

And copy the shortcut links and put them in a zip and host somewhere. As I seem to now have no link to Media Center and so on under the start menu. Can't seem to be able to find where to run it :S
Need the links from Vista Ultimate ( 32 Bit if it matters )

Open PowerDVD Ultra, then right click and select 'Configuration', then click on 'Help', then click on the '+' to expand the 'Introduction' section, then click on the '+' to expand the 'The PowerDVD Program' section, and then click on 'HD DVD Hotkeys and Funcions'.
BTW, if I'm right, no one said that they required the 'Alt' key.

P.S. - Under PDVDU 2911, I tried the keys straight out. 'A' magnifies, 'B' sets a bookmark (but bookmarks are greyed out on the configuration menu), and 'C' and 'D' seem to have no effect. 'Alt' plus 'B', 'C', and 'D' work as advertised, but I haven't yet found a title where 'Alt' plus 'A' can be tested.

No, these are not the keys everyone is looking for. The missing are the keys A,B,C & D on the HD DVD remote control. They are required for interactivity features, or scene bokmarking.
If I remember correctly, PowerDVD 7.1 had them on ALT+CTRL A, ALT+CTRL B, ALT+CTRL C & ALT+CTRL D
Since PowerDVD 7.3 the keys stopped working. :(

I must agree with you a straight A or B does work as you say on Batman Begins, I was able to zoom and bookmark and then view those bookmarks from the interactive menu.
EDIT: This from the HD-A1 manual
Use these buttons as indicated by the video display during HD DVD disc playback.
Depending on the disc contents, the functions of each button may differ.
I must agree with you a straight A or B does work as you say on Batman Begins, I was able to zoom and bookmark and then view those bookmarks from the interactive menu.

I didn't understand that the A, B, C, and D keys referred to a Toshiba remote. I didn't go the HD DVD player route, nor the Blu-ray one either, so I can't really relate to them.
Personally, I've given up on using a remote with a PC since I purchased a Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000. It comes with a mouse, but you don't need it because the mouse functions are built into the keyboard. It's very lightweight and it fits very comfortably in both hands. I find it easier to use than a computer remote control and because it's bluetooth it works just as far away as a remote.

I have an SBC keyboard with mouse functions which is very good and I use when something needs to be configured but the imon remote is excellent as an everyday DVD remote, it's so configureable, you can add commands very easily for any programme as long as that programme has keyboard shortcuts.

I tried the remote route first and I looked at the imon before I bought the MWED 7000. The reason I prefer the MWED 7000 is I don't lose any functionality. Performing a string search for a movie across a network with multiple computers is atrocious using a remote. The MWED 7000 is also unbeatable for using my HDTV+PC from 15 feet away in my easy chair.
I think he was referring to u-control. They seem to work with my keyboard at least on kingkong. Just hitting the "A" toggles u-control on and off. "B" adds a bookmark to the current scene. etc. I still have not applied the latest patch. I have a 7900gs card and i would like to leave well enough alone for now!

No, I was just saying what I've been able to do.
I just updated my previous post with the following:
Also, I was using Batman Begins to test.
Wow, I have give 2911 another try. If the "Remote buttons" would work --- great!

i still cant get the 2911 full edition to work on vista 64. I think Cyberlink tweaked something so it doesnt install on vista 64 anymore :(
Oh well, I won't be using PowerDVD to play my HD content anymore. Nero does a decent job of playing ripped blu-ray /hd-dvd so I'll just use them from now on....too much of a hassle with PDVD:disagree:

This isn't specifically about the new patch but I did have to laugh. The humour is sad but...
I just received an email from CyberLink today. I'm an existing customer for numerous years now. I'm still using PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. Well, I got a lovely email about PowerDVD 7 Ultra being on sale! Joy joy!
Now remember I already own PowerDVD 7 Deluxe. Well, they are willing to sell me PowerDVD 7 Ultra for a whopping 10 USD off. Yes, I can now purchase PowerDVD 7 Ultra for the low low price of 89.95 USD. Shocking. Simply astounding! Forget about the fact that I already gave them how much money and they won't give me an upgrade discount... nope, I get to save 10 USD. Considering all the problems they've had with PowerDVD 7 Ultra I'm amazed they're actually even doing this.
Now there's a deal if I ever saw one.
I can't wait until TheaterTek has HD and BR support.

DrinkLyeAndDie,
Is this a special offer that you activate through a link emailed to you, as Cyberlink does not have this special up on their site?

I have been using PowerDVD ultra until yesterday when I tried to install the new patch:doh: The installation crashed and the application was not working - so I tried to unistall it, but failed again. I tried all recommended steps (edit register, installshield, specialised software), but when I try to re-install powerDVD I receive a message "there is an old version of powerDVD on your PC , click Yes to unistall it first" . When I click "yes" the installation stops - no software installed. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit). So I am stuck - unable to reinstall the programme because somewhere in the system there sre some pieces of older installation . I only do not know where and no cleaning tool do not help. I tried to use the same installation file on my other PC (XP Home) - no problem. Any idea ? Thanks.

It's in the CyberLink May 2007 eNews letter (http://www.cyberlink.com/english/newsletter/2007/NL0705.jsp).

I replied to this on your avsforum post on the same request. Posting here in case anyone else is having trouble:
Did you run the MS cleanup utility to ensure there were no more PowerDVD entries? http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

I also had this problem several times. I had to search the registry in regedit and delete every entry related to PowerDVD or Cyberlink (and there are a lot of them!). Then it worked again.
I haven't tried the MS Tool yet.

Nero Showtime? You must be kidding. It doesn't play Blu-ray BDMV (no problem for me), but it hardly plays HD DVD without tearing or stutter. IMHO completely unusable.
EDIT:
As buggy as PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 might be (HD DVD subtitles anyone?), it is the only player that delivers good picture & audio quality.

Except there is no way in hell I can make it to work on my Asus P5B Deluxe with nvidia 7600 GT and any nvidia drivers.
PDVD HD 6.5 works beatifully as we speak.
I tried to install the latest full version on the totally clean system. No dice. Either black screen or reboot. Yes, REBOOT!
Using instructions from this thread from Cyberlink TS removed 7.3 and reinstalled 6.5. Everything is fine.
7.3 works fine on my second Abit F-I90HD HTPC with Radeon 1250 built-in.
Am I missing something?
Edit: my system has nvidia PCI-E 7600GT and nvidia PCI M4000 at the same time. I need to run 3 monitors from this HTPC. This is probably the root of the problem.

I tried every recommended solution , contacted Cyberlink and even Microsoft and the result was : reinstall Vista Upgrade , but use CLEAN installation (without programmes) and re-install again every other programme. Fortunatelly I did not have many programmes installed on my HTPC. Clearly there is a problem with upgrading Vista from XP when PowerDVD is installed in XP. It took me over three hours anyway, but not now (at least) my PowerDVD works

Knowing Cyberlink, it was probably an accident that it worked in the first place!
