View Full Version : Drive Angry (region 2)
Hi I am having trouble with a DVD called Drive Angry. When I put the disk in the drive AnyDVD scans and scans then finally comes up with a message that if failed to read the DVD.
The disk is not dirty and my drive does have the region code set (to region 1 as this disk is).
I have no problems with this drive for all my region 1 discs.
I tried this in a different drive and it worked (non Matshita).
The drive that does not work is a Matshita drive and the message also said it has problems. Any workarounds known?
I have attached the logs as well.
Thanks in advance!

Dump your Matshita drive, you can't read this disk without changing your region code to 2.

The version of AnyDVD you are using ( 6.8.4.0 ) is up to date. If you are a registered user (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=31136), I strongly recommend that you update to the latest beta (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=48895) version 6.8.4.2
MATSHITA BD-RE UJ242 1.00 09121800
Please ensure you are using the latest firmware for your optical drive. See here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=18731).
Rip speeds on DVD and Blu-Ray might be improved by MediaCodeSpeedEdit (http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/). Please see RIPLOCK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riplock).
If installed (often from Duplex Secure, Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% ), uninstall SPTD, which can be the culprit for slow rips.
See here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=124439&postcount=5) and here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=204669&postcount=30).
Matshita (Panasonic OEM) drives also have a reputation of being cheap junk (which is probably why some laptop companies love these drives)
They die easily, and also suffer from region coding issues. Click this (http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=637240&postcount=2). They should really be avoided.
This disk contains structural protection. Please either use AnyDVDs 'Rip To Harddrive' function or use CloneDVD. See here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=3992) for details.

Problematic Filter SiRemFil It's possible that you might need this for a RAID setup.
Click here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showpost.php?p=165214&postcount=4) to see an example of how removing SiRemFil fixed a problem:

Refer here (http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=15535) for an list of known problematic filters. Further filter information here (http://www.cdr-zone.com/forum/about4719.html)
Remove the filter(s):
Create a backup of your registry. Refer here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/?ln=en) for how to do so.
Download ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) (freeware).
Start ImgBurn and go to Tools > Filter Driver Load Order...
Select "SiRemFil". Click Remove Selected Filter. Click OK.
Reboot.
Whatever programs installed the filter may no longer work properly.
Reinstall the piece of software that originally installed the filter to get things working again if necessary.
It is not recommended that you do so, however, because the problem will likely happen again at a later time

The drive that does not work is a Matshita drive and the message also said it has problems.
If I understand this correctly you got the content off this with AnyDVD on a different drive so that should tell you where the problem is not.
Your Matshita is likely happy about the R2 DVD in an R1 machine.
Thanks for the quick responses. I had a feeling that the problem is the drive.. and I would love to dump it and get a different brand/model but I have not been able to find a BD writer that is 9.5mm (I have a laptop). If anyone knows of one and could recomend that would be great!

The problem with many Matshita drives is that they are "hard coded" for region checking. This means that the drive itself "rejects" the DVD before it ever gets passed along to the operating system. AnyDVD never gets to "see" the disk at all.

And maybe other users could offer a tip:

I have an optiarc combi drive in my Dell and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
