I have tried multiple times to get my keys to register in Windows Vista, but the window that tells me I have X days left befor my demo expires keeps popping up when Windows boots. Are fixes on the way? Or does anybody have a solution for this? I have re-booted multiple times to no avail.

UAC unaware apps can accidentally create multiple files and registry entries without even knowing. Installer and registration tools for AnyDVD save the same registration key in different registry locations.
Open regedit see if key was implemented correctly
Or try disabling UAC and reinstall see if that helps until fix

Save your key to a floppy or CD and delete the program, then install it and use the key to register.

I have the same problem, I purchased CloneDVD a while ago and changed to Vista Ultimate recently. Since then my CloneDVD only runs in "Trial Mode", I can apply the Key.CloneDVD but it still runs in trial mode. I tried many things, uninstall, deaktivated the Microsoft Defender Software but I am still out of luck. I wrote to Slysoft three days ago with all the information they need, no answer so far.
Anybode have an idea?

I have Vista Business Edition running on another HD and I am having no problems, but its only the 32 bit edition. Vista is brand new and we will have to wait to see if tweaks have to be made. I really do not know.8)

Particularly with the kind of stuff we're doing here, it would probably be advisable for most people NOT TO INSTALL Vista. Certainly not until its been around a while and much more is known than we do now. At this end, XP Media edition works just fine......... therefore, why change?
I believe with some passage of time, XP will prove to be a solid Legacy Software, so be sure to retain, archive and back up all your disks and keys.
And any implications that Vista will, on its own, uninstall and destroy software of which Gates & Co. disapproves or regards as competitive with its monopoly has to be worrisome. Never forget that Hollywood has unlimited money with which to pay off, buy legislation, bribe members of Congress and the like.

Yeah.... right.
Back on track now. Right click the reg files and run them as administrator. See if that helps. If not, right click them again and set them to run in XP compatability mode. AnyDVD has been stated to work with Vista and should be no problem to install and reg. With Vista you need to have or approve changes that Vista deems are questionable. (adding entries to the reg does seem to qualify for that!)

Another quick method is to copy your license key to your desktop. Renaming it by adding a "reg" extension.
Example: Key.AnyDVD to --> Key.AnyDVD.reg. Run as normally. Should work for other SlySoft products with similar registration format.
Quick Edit: Have been told (credit James) that this info only applies to a 32-bit version of Windows.

I just figured out, my CloceDVD key is from 2004, at that time I guess there was no CloneDVD2. My Key.CloneDVD points to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elaborate Bytes\CloneDVD\Key]
without the "2" after CloneDVD. So the key created a new entry in the registry without the "2". Now I figured I got two entries in the registry, one "CloneDVD" and one "CloneDVD2".
I copied the key to the "CloneDVD2" and hoped it will work but now when I start CloneDVD it says "your evaluation period has expired".
Great - I can rename the registry entry again and get me 15 days left back. Very annoying.
Slysoft did not help me in any way so far, they just wrote a short line "the key works"
Thank you!

Tom is an employee of Slysoft.

To personal message him through this forum: http://forum.slysoft.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=3
Just tell him your problem and if you want link him to this thread. Hmm, I just noticed his signature said that he doesn't respond to PM or e-mail requests. We just need to get his attention. Shame too, the PM feature is nice.

Whether I needed to buy a new key or not wasn't my issue. THE KEYS DO NOT WORK!!! My point was simply to let people know that it is a new key. There has been some discussion as to when the keys were purchased, and how that may affect their working with Vista.

I would suggest backing up your key, uninstalling AnyDVD, reinstalling AnyDVD, and then trying the key.

I installed both CloneDVD & AnyDVD yesterday on Vista Ultimate x86. They wanted a reboot but before I rebooted, I just doubleclicked both reg file and added them to the registry. UAC was active on Vista and it popped up that I needed to approve the task. I did and the keys registered correctly. I have rebooted many times by tonight and my registration is still holding.
The blanket statement, "It looks like there are some serious issues with the Slysoft reg keys and Vista Ultimate." is not correct. You may be having some problem for an unknown reason but I for one have had no problem getting them registered.

The blanket statement, "It looks like there are some serious issues with the Slysoft reg keys and Vista Ultimate." is not correct. You may be having some problem for an unknown reason but I for one have had no problem getting them registered.
Then let me please know where the key is in your registry, either:
1: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elaborate Bytes\CloneDVD2\Key]
or
2: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elaborate Bytes\CloneDVD\Key]
after installing CloneDVD I got an entry like 1:, there is no 2: entry in the reg-file. After applying my key.CloneDVD I see a new entry exactly like 2: but CloneDVD doesn't recognize the key - so I thought copy the key to 1: where CloneDVD maybe is looking for. Unfortunately, if I do that, CloneDVD is telling me the registration is expired. After deleting the key in 1: I am back to my 21 days trial period http://smilie-land.de/t/a-d/boese/boese0014.gif

You may not be having problems today, but you could tomorrow. My keys worked fine last week and over the weekend -- but they quit working yesterday. If you aren't having problems, that's great! Don't be a jerk to those of us that are. All of us have had these programs running under Windows XP. The only difference is that now we're running them under Vista. We shouldn't have to go into the registry, or stand on our heads. Slysoft last week said on their website that they had tested their programs. Have you noticed the website doesn't say that any longer? Certainly there's a problem. Hope the next update takes care of it.

Yes, you're absolutely right. But I expect at least a answer from Slysoft support, more than "the key works" when it is not working with Vista. Something like, we are going to look into the problem and see what's going on with our keys and Vista.
I paid for this software and have never ever used their support exept of now.

For those who still have the key problem, has anyone tried changing the compatibility mode to XP SP2? I can't test that proposed solution, but I wonder if it would work.

I offer this only as my experience, certainly no cure. Various programs started acting up yesterday. Last night I removed the following offending programs: Corel Draw 11, Nero 6 (registered version), Microsoft Wireless Network hardware. Obviously I've reinstalled the network, but the others are being replaced as out-dated. I've downloaded Nero 7, ordered the latest version of Corel Draw, and decided on a new router. Anyway, my keys started working again without my doing anything with AnyDVD, CloneDVDMobile, or the registry. Each time I install a new program I will check to make sure my keys are working. All of us that were first to use Vista knew we stood a chance of problems. My machine is new, and I made sure everything was going to be okay with Vista when I made that purchase. Maybe I should have shown the same smarts when I started installing my software. I guess that's the price we pay for being FIRST. It'll all work itself out, and when we're finished we will be the envy of our friends. Good luck to all of us, and may these problems be a bad memory next week!

I think I have found a couple of things that might cause trouble when registering for example AnyDVD on Vista x64 (thats the 64 bit version of vista).
1. Make sure the file with your key doesn't have ".reg" as file extension! I think it should be named "key.AnyDVD" and nothing else.
2. Don't try to add the key into the registry by right clicking on it and choosing merge (only works if it is named *.reg). This will not work on Vista x64 since the registry key must be placed in the WoW (Window on Windows) part of the registry for AnyDVD to see it. Just merging it will place in it in the wrong place!
3. If you have renamed the key file to "key.AnyDVD" and installed AnyDVD I think you can double click on on the key file and let AnyDVD put the key in the right registry location. I am not 100% sure about this since I used the way described below to register my copy of AnyDVD.
4. Theres a utility that can help you register AnyDVD after you have installed AnyDVD that can be found by
a. Click on Start (the small round windows "bubble") in the lower left corner
b. Click on "All programs"
c. Click on "SlySoft"
d. Click on "AnyDVD"
e. Click on "Register AnyDVD"
A file requester will now appear that will let you navigate to and select your key file. Notice that it must have ".AnyDVD" as file extension for the file request to accept the file. So you must have renamed it as described above.
Notice that the (idiotic) default setting of hiding the file extension of files in windows might make it difficult to rename the key file but this can be fixed by
1. Open the directory where you have stored the key file
2. In the Tools menu there an option named "Folder options...", click on that
3. Click on the "View" tab
4. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
5. Click ok
You shall now see the extension of all the files in the folder and can rename your key file.
So after registering the key on Vista x64 the key shall now be located in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Wow6432Node->SlySoft->AnyDVD->Key
As some of you might notice there's a new "entry" in the registry path named Wow6432Node and thats the WoW (Windows on Windows) part in the registry where I think 32 bit software registry entries are located.
Hope this might help some of you having trouble registering on Vista x64!
Please notice that Im not 100% sure that all of this is correct but since I have a registered AnyDVD running on my Vista x64 at least something must be right :)

Alright, let's assume that there is an intermittent problem with registration. We know it's intermittent upon users so there is two explanations, either (a) it's a software problem or (b) it's a hardware problem. We know that Vista registry virtualization has tried to separate the two (hardware and software) and should make it easier to figure which problem it is (and may have caused problems). To provide Slysoft with the most complete information, please list your hardware and any solutions you may have. Here is my example:
Status: Working
DVD drive: Pioneer DVR-108
Method: Installed Legacy Clonedvd then installed key. Rebooted. Installed Clonedvd update and received error about registration. Installed key and rebooted. Error fixed.
Please provide the methods of installation and hardware and whether the key worked or not so we can provide as much input to the Elaborate Bytes/Slysoft personell as possible.

The problem seems to be with Vista's User Access Control (UAC) facility. Turning this off seems to resolve the licensing problem. I've also tried leaving UAC activated and setting the executables to run as administrator but this doesn't totally work, you have to manually start the applications and then respond to the UAC prompt.
Hopefully Slysoft will resolve this issue soon so that we can keep UAC activated and hopefully (according to MS) have a more secure system.

I notified Slysoft by email of the UAC in Vista problem 10 days ago. I received a reply stating the information would be passed on to the developers. Historically Slysoft update there software frequently, does the lack of a fix this time around indicate that they are having major problems fixing this issue?

I can't seem to get AnyDVD to stay registered in Vista x32. It was working fine on version 6.1.23. After I upgraded and rebooted I started getting the message that the trial would expire in x days.
I have disabled UAC, Vista Firewall, Installed as Administrator (specifically), delayed starting Vista until the drives spun down, I have added the reg key manually to the registry and used the RegisterAnyDVD application, and every other recommendation that I could find in the forums. Nothing has worked.
Oddly enough, if I reinstall AnyDVD, the registration information comes up correctly until I reboot at which point it reverts back to registered to "nobody". Since I am on a laptop and reboot several times a day, reinstalling every time I want to use AnyDVD is really not a workable option.
Has ANYONE found a workable solution? I'm running out of options and patience.
Thanks,
Mark

If you go into C:\Program Files\Slysoft\<Program> directory. You can right click the executable and set the Properties Compatability page to run as Administrator all the time.
This will reduce the need to right click and manually run as Administrator so you can use the AutoStart feature again..
