Does anyone know which of the bluray burners @ newegg DO NOT require rip speed unlock as I don't want to have to futz with flashing?

afaik pretty much all drives are affected by this. Removing the riplock isnt that hard mate. It's a 3 step process

1) download the latest official drive firmware
2) load the firmware into MCSE and tick the box that sais "increase read speed"
3) save the new firmware and launch it to flash the drive. Thats it

Not riplocked = All lite-on + Plextor PX-LB950 models which are re-badged lite-ons.

Not riplocked but uneven and slower rippers = Pioneers

Riplocked = LG's

Kind of a thread necro but what the hell. riplock is nothing MCSE can't fix. I flashed all 3 of my drives with the lock removed. No problems whatsoever, fast & steady.

I was simply trying to answer this question limiting myself to the poster's concerns. Yes, I too have removed riplock, crossflashed, and otherwise twisted and contorted my drives to my whims for some time :). I thought it might be helpful to leave a slightly more complete answer to any who might wish to know.

You might be interested to know that a Lite-on BD drive out of the box rips BD-R's considerably faster than an LG with riplock removed using AnyDVD HD.

Just for the record, I love my LGs' burning talents too. For someone with room for another burner or 5, the Lite-ons are a worthy addition. If I had to limit myself to one(not gonna happen) and used AnyDVD HD for BD back ups, it would have to be the LO.
