Default Die Hard 1/2/3

Hi there,

I found a thread regarding Die Hard 3 and it not being rippable with the trial version of AnyDVD HD. Is this true of 1 and 2 as well? I ripped 4 with the trial version, however I'm getting bad rips of 1 2 and 3.

I have now purchased a life time key and am in the process of re-ripping Die Hard 1 to test. However, being impatient, and it's taking a while, I figure I'd get some input on this anyway.

Thanks for a great product, best 87 Euros I ever spent.

If you're talking about disc read errors, then click Can't rip Blu-ray discs? Getting read errors? Guess what? The problem is on your end!

All Blu-ray discs can be ripped with or without Anydvd HD. They just can't be decrypted without Anydvd HD.

If you're not talking about read errors, then you need to click Have problems? Please answer these questions before posting!, and provide the requested information.

Yes thank you, I read that article already. No, not disc read errors, at least not as far as I can see.

I don't get any errors until I start to play back the resulting rip. There's also random bitstream corruption in the video and no FPS value in the header.

It appears that AnyDVD HD Demo fails to properly rip the Die Hard 1 BluRay on my PC AND fails to properly rip the Die Hard 2 and 3 BluRays on a -completely different- PC, despite the fact I've successfully ripped Live Free or Die Hard and various other BluRay movies.

Successful rips (with demo) include:

The Dark Knight
Push
Live Free or Die Hard
Layer Cake

Not to mention the OP exists because I used the search feature and found this thread with a response from a Slysoft developer saying:

So anyway. Now I have a shiny new lifetime license and am unfortunately experiencing the same issue, no apparent errors after using "Rip Video DVD to Hard Disk", however during playback:

I have to manually tell mplayer the FPS of the stream, I've only had to do this with Die Hard 1 2 and 3, 4 was fine.

Code:
FPS not specified in the header or invalid, use the -fps option.
Almost constantly during playback, my error output is spammed with:

Code:
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]non-existing SPS 1 referenced in buffering period 0
When the bitstream corruption appears, at the same time in the error log we also get:

Code:
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]left block unavailable for requested intra mode at 0 45
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]error while decoding MB 0 45, bytestream (23327)
[h264 @ 0xc2f840]concealing 769 DC, 769 AC, 769 MV errors
I've attached the AnyDVD log generated with the Die Hard 1 BluRay in the drive.

Incidentally Die Hard 1 is Region B, the attempts with 2 and 3 were Region A.

Operating System is Windows XP Service Pack 3, the Toshiba UDF 2.5 drivers installed that I found on these forums, running inside VirtualBox 2.2.4 (was also tried with 3.0.2) with the passthrough enabled to allow the Guest OS to talk directly to the drive (same setup as was used to rip the above successful backups). VirtualBox because I'm a Linux user living in a BluRay world where we have no support. I'm going to somehow get around to setting up a native partition and trying a dual boot if you're actually aware of issues with VirtualBox but given the various other successful rips, that's not the first place I'm looking.

At time of writing I'm going to see what kind of results I get via Clown DVD.

I would appreciate any info/advice or indeed a solution that anyone may have.

Thanks

Then it's not a read error issue, and that sticky doesn't apply. You're talking about decryption--not ripping.

VirtualBox
Actually, that isn't officially supported.

Does the original disc play fine with Anydvd running in the background?

Your issue has nothing to do with that. Anydvd's status window would indicate the disc isn't being decrypted--and yours does indicate the disc is being decrypted. Completely different issue

Thanks for such a fast response.

I wouldn't for a second, if it turns out to be VirtualBox related, start jumping up and down demanding a fix, though it will be a shame.

I'm currently seeing if I get more luck with Clown BD, I didn't get far with PowerDVD it just kept giving me an unknown error with no information.

Is that using the original disc?

Do you have HDCP compliant hardware? If so, does the original disc play when Anydvd HD is disabled?
