Default AnyDVD doesn't do it all?

I posted somewhere else last week, but not sure where, when I was not able to get past the CSS protection (apparently) on a DVD that I was trying to clone. I attached the log file at that time and do not remember a definitive answer, although a few folks had a few things to say.

My question now though is more general. Is AnyDVD not capable of overcoming ALL types of protection encryption?

It is very able.

Well, I am not sure what is going on, but aside from playing the DVD in a regular DVD player, or playing it using the PC/MAC default DVD player, nothing else seems to work.

I have AnyDVD and Clone DVD on my Windows laptop. On the laptop, it won't do anything. I'm on my MAC right now, so I can't re-produce the logfile. But, even on this MAC, using MAC software, similar to Clone DVD, the same thing happens. It's like the system or DVD knows that I am trying to copy and it won't spin the DVD. On the MAC, it eventually spits it out as if it can't read it.

On my laptop, it tries and tries (you can hear it trying to spin), but it never gets to the point of Clone DVD being able to do anything.

If I remember correctly from your other thread, you were told (and shown) the disc had lots of read errors and to exchange the disc. Have you?

I haven't done that. I bought the DVD used. It plays fine in a player. I'm not sure what the errors are, but why wouldn't they affect the playback as well? I'm just a novice at this. That's why I buy the software to do the "brain work" for me.

"A player" is not the drive you are using AnyDVD with? Some drives can be picky if a disc is slightly damaged.

Players skip errors in the disc. You may notice the skips, you may not, depends on the amount of errors. AnyDVD reads EVERY bit and will not skip over errors. It will continue to try and read the disc until it finally gives up and reports the File03 error. Exchange the disc as a defective, used or not.

I buy a lot of used DVDs. First thing I do when I get them home is to try to rip the disc with AnyDVD. If it works, the DVD is good. If not, it gets taken back.

Playing a disc and copying a disc are different things.
Just because it plays does not mean it will copy.
