H264 and AC3/6 PS3 Profile - AC3/2??

Hi all.

I usually use vob passthrough - it's simple and quick at a time when I had a thousand DVD's to rip. But I am now looking at using the H264 encoder to save on space with new discs. On testing a couple out with the PS3 16:9 Profile and the Generic MP4/AVC Profile, the AC3/6 audio comes out as AC3/2. I am not looking to play these files on a small player, rather a NMT media player to a large plasma and we are up pretty close (small loungeroom ) - so video quality retention is important. And I want the original 5.1 audio track, AC3 or DTS. Appreciate any advice on which profile using H264 will give me this.

OK, for those interested, the downmixing of 5.1 to stereo seems to be associated with a limitation of using ffmpeg in CloneDVDmobile. I expect there are many out there who already know this. All a bit beyond me. In any case, Slysoft support have advised that they are soon to switch to avconv - support (or improved support, not sure which) for 5.1 passthrough being one of the reasons for switching.

I'll stick to vob passthrough for the time being.
