Default [Resolved] DVD playback from disk works but can't rip

I have an odd issue I would like to get some assistance with:

I am trying to backup these DVDs I have. They contain commercials/infomercials we had made. We had a bunch of them duplicated at this company (small batch onto regular DVD-R). I can play back the DVDs no problem via Windows Media Player and Media Player Classic. But as soon as I rip the Video DVDs to hard disk the result is just useless with wrong play times and some of the DVDs even fail ripping. Since the DVDs play fine I have to assume the actual media is okay.

I read almost all the stickies and think I have all the info that might be needed:

1. Yes, I have AnyDVD 6.5.2.3 and CloneDVD2 2.9.2.0
2. Attached
3. AnyDVD states the following error:
VobSet 8 1 0 1177429 1177467 1177444
CloneDVD error is as per attached screenshot and log
4. Attached
5. Don't use anything like that
6. No problem burning, the problem is with the ripping
7. This is not a commercial DVD as purchased in the store, this is content that is ours, we own it. No region set, made in US, see #11
8. Latest firmware is installed for sure
9. not applicable
10. not applicable

11.
Summary for drive J: (AnyDVD 6.5.2.3)
TSSTCORP CDDVDW SH-S203N SB01 1203
Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)

Media is a DVD.
Booktype: dvd-r (version 5), Layers: 1
Total size: 1180688 sectors (2306 MBytes)

Video DVD (or CD) label: DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER
Media is not CSS protected.
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is region free.

RCE protection not found.
Structural copy protection not found.
UDF filesystem patched!
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!

12. Did that
13. No power issues, have a beautiful UPS system with plenty of juice, a 600W power supply only pulling about 250W

I did verify that the Region code is set correctly for my device. The device manager indicated that it is set to Region 1 - not sure why AnyDVD claims it is not set.

Did the company that duplicated the DVDs for us add some special something to not allow me to copy these? Any insight and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
