Default Samsung SH-S223Q Firmware SB02 read problems

I use AnyDVD 6.5.2.3 to read my copy of WALL-E 3-disc special edition DVD. My drive is set to Region 1 USA, as well as in AnyDVD. For some reason i get a "fileIO 3" read error at 2%. I wiped the disc clean, I also tried the newest firmware SB03 and it still doesn't work. So far, i was able to copy Underdog, Cars, The Departed, and Superman Returns. Wall-E and Finding Nemo is where i'm having problems reading with.

I then installed a demo version of AnyDVD on another computer i have that has a NEC ND-3550A DVD burner. To my surprise, it was able to copy WALL-E without problems. This NEC burner of mine is 3 years old and it can read better than my newly bought Samsung drive! I haven't tried to copy Finding Nemo on my NEC drive yet, but I think it can copy it.

Anyone out there with the Samsung SH-S223Q drive that has the same problem as I do? Should I return it for the SH-S223F version instead? Anyone used a firmware hack on the SH-S223Q drive to improve read performance?

Thank you all, in advance. I really appreciate it.

Some drives are more forgiving with borderline defective discs than others. I have a SH-S223F that I use with hacked firmware for reading. I haven't experienced reading issues in general. I would find it hard to believe that the SH-S223Q is significantly different with respect to reading.

You are correct Webslinger, its the exact same firmware, the only diff is the Lightscribe feature, if you look at both firmwares ( SB03 ) they are exactly the same size. ( 2.0 mbs) for the .bin file.

Well, i bought a Pioneer DVR-116DBK and the same drive Webslinger has, the Samsung SH-S223F. I'm returning my SH-S223Q for a refund through Newegg. If both drives are able to rip my Wall-E and Finding Nemo discs (since they're giving me issues) i'm keeping them.

I'm also going to update the SB03 firmware on the SH-S223F via firmware hack in hopes of achieving the same success Webslinger has with reading discs.

About the Pioneer DVR-116DBK, can the firmware be hacked as well?

These are the drives that I have:
http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=767 (and I crossflash my Pioneer drives to the labelflash versions and apply Mediacodespeededit to the firmware).

For Samsung drives, I've been using this: http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=18626

But drives won't fix discs that are borderline defective.

The Samsung SH-S223F read the Wall-E disc, and so did the Pioneer DVR-116DBK. I used the firmware hack for the Samsung drive, just like what you did Webslinger. Now, i'm also going to use the firmware hack on the Pioneer drive. I'm keeping both drives, and I returned the Samsung SH-S223Q today.

Thank you for all your help.
