How to copy a VCD

New here.
Thanks in advance if anyone can answer this question.
Sorry if it's been posted somewhere before.

I *do* know I have done this before.
I can't remember how I did it though.

I have a VCD format disk.
Pictures and audio in a data or mpeg format. (?)
Anyway....I've now tried replicating it (this time) in Audio Multimedia Format, just regular Audio format and Data format to another CD (not DVD).

The original is on CD.
It's been dubbed (aka replicate or copy) before to a CD.

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Does it make a difference that the CloneCD/AnyDVD stuff is on my D drive and I may not have possibly done the updates to that drive?

I'm also not exactly sure now (age remembering thing) if I did try the Data format to copy.

Anyone that understands and can help would be much appreciated.

VCDs are normal data CDs that use a special compression mode for storing picture, audio and video informations.

VCDs use the CD-ROM XAMode 2 Form 2 standard. This means, they store 2324 bytes of data in a disc sector instead of 2048 bytes of data (in "usual" standards). VCDs sacrifice error correction data in favor of storage capacity.

This means, using this trick a Video CD can hold up to 800 MB of data on a "normal" 700 MB blank. Note that this has nothing to do with classic overburning. Problem is that VCDs are more vulnerable to errors.

So please

- Use the normal "Data CD" profile of CloneCD
- Read to an image file first (glasses button), then write to a blank (pencil button) for best quality
- Use a slow burning speed (e.g. 16x) to minimize errors (writers ALWAYS produce errors on a blank)
- Use quality blanks. With ultra-cheap blanks you will most likely experience stuttering playback. Cheap is cheap for a reason.

I was so excited I got the reply.
I did think this was the way I did it before but IT IS NOT WORKING NOW.
sorry i shouted there. How frustrating....! What am i doing wrong?

Can you tell me how to adjust the editing speed like u said? Would that prevent it from working at all?
Would an inferior disk not take the write copy at all? I do have a high end CD made specific for audio
(never really thought it mattered but I got them cause someone said it did) and I will try it on one of those after posting.

Also....do I want "write simulation" on? (checked) or does it even matter?

There are two drives when i open clonecd....
my disc drive....the "G" drive (Sony) *i copied and pasted what is said when I went to copy (from glasses) below*
and another "H", which is a roxio (i think) virtual disc drive
possibly created when slysoft came up with that. (if that makes any sense)

I saved the read to a new specific folder (after the temp folder I was using for clone dvd and another on another drive didnt work) on my desktop and tried it that way.....
the files it saved to that folder were a SUB file and two elby.VCDMount.1 files (one with large amt of kb's the other small)
but that shouldn't really matter to me should it? I know when I copied a DVD to do some transcription work...and to slow it down it had chapters that I went into and tweeked but not the normal ordinary user that just wants to copy a CD should have to access those files saved to the folder that saves the clone files, right? (i know apples vs oranges...but i'm wiggin here trying to get this copied)

P.S. The reason this is so important that I make a copy is that I lost the original I got waaay back when from an unknown source and I just have the copied one. It's clips of some old Chris Cornell solo stuff, some Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden (yes TOTD) and more recently, Audioslave doing a live show atop the Letterman theatre. I don't wanna be ever without it and would like preservation of mine. If that information should tempt to want to motivate anyone to help figure this out. thanks

Disable Anydvd.


If you're not using one of the following then you're probably using junk:

Maxell CD-R Pro (Taiyo Yudens with a protective coating), Verbatim Datalife Plus, or Taiyo Yuden

And make sure that you're selecting a proper burn speed (not burning as fast as possible; try half the rated speed of the blank media that you're using)
