Default Request support added for the new Archos 5 internet tablet

Why? Because it is so freaking awesome.

800x480 resolution screen with the ability to output 720p to an HDMI connection. Supports a ton of video formats including VOB, MKV, OGM, H.264, etc. Sorry iPod, this is where you suck.

Now, you ask why I ask for the support? Well, on the cheaper Archos models, storage is a premium and the CloneDVD's ability to drastically shrink the videos but keep quality is a big plus.

Now, the supported formats for Archos 5 internet tablet are as follows:

Video playback
• MPEG-4 HD (up to 720p)
• MPEG-48 (ASP@L5 AVI, up to DVD resolution)
• H.264 HD (up to 720p)
• WMV (MP@ML, up to DVD resolution) including WMV protected files
• MKV (up to 720p, 2500kbs, 23fps0
• M-JPEG (Motion JPEG Video) in QVGA resolution

With optional plug-in (downloadable from your tablet or on www.archos.com):
• Cinema: MPEG-2, WMV HD (720p), VOB

Audio playback
• Stereo MP3 decoding @ 30-320 Kbits/s CBR & VBR,
• WMA, Protected WMA, WAV (PCM/ADPCM), AAC9(except protected content),
• AAC+ stereo audio files
• Ogg Vorbis up to 320kbs @44hz
• Flac up to 1000kbs @44hz.
With optional software plug-ins (downloadable from your tablet or on www.archos.com):
• AC3 stereo audio and 5.1 sound files (via SPDIF output of DVR Station )
Photo viewer 10 JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF
Subtitles Support subtitles files with .srt, .ssa, .smi, .sub extensions

I've also been able to confirm that DivX works just fine on the latest firmware v1.2.11

Is there any other formats you guys would like for me to try to see if it works on the Archos?

Default I second the motion

I agree.

Slysoft, please support the Archos 5 Internet Tablet device as a standard profile.

It's one of those devices, that after you pick it up (and you know the specs/what it can do), you are "I gotta have this."

Videos look great on it - it's really watchable, unlike small screen PMPs.

And with Android...oh, the possibilities.

Forum members: Have you made your own profile for the Archos 5IT? I would think on of the other profiles could be tweaked while we wait for Slysoft.

Slysoft.. don't waste your time with this Archos crap and give us support for devices that actually work please? All that will happen, is Archos and it's clown supporters will try to blame anything that goes wrong on you. That is how it's company and it's fanbase runs.
First, if you don't like your purchase, return it. That is the ultimate measure of feedback. The fact that you still own one, yet bash it/the company, is very odd (which means you are either lying about owning it, or are bi-polar when it comes to conveying your thoughts.)

Bashing in a forum is for your venting, but unproductive to people who have the device and use it daily. I could say disparaging things all day about other devices that are in the profiles list for CloneDVDMobile.

Do you have the Archos 5 Internet Tablet, or just the Archos 5? I used an Archos 5IT, threw a bunch of stuff at it, and was duly impressed. Used it for about 2 hours, no crashes.

Archos has done 5 firmware updates in less than 2 months for the 5IT, which to me show a commitment to fixing issues. (all devices have issues).

The fact it has 802.11n is fantastic for the home network; copying files locally from NAS, as well as streaming stuff.

Sure, it's not for everyone. It's not a phone (but VOIP-able soon), and it's bigger than most handhelds. Some people make prefer a physical keyboard. But with those trade-offs comes a very nice video watching experience, what I consider to be a large and useful virtual keyboard, and decent web experience.

Different strokes for different folks. No need to be a basher.

Default I just got an Archos 5 IT yesterday, and am trying to load a DVD

to watch on airplane in a few days.

My first try with CloneDVD mobile didn't work, at least WMP would not play the video.

What target device or settings will work to make a file that can be loaded into the Archos 5?

TIA

No one claimed the device was "perfect". You are being dishonest in the conversation. The fact you say "10M problems" is further evidence of this.

Are you 12 years old? Your comments seem very immature.

You have an issue with Archos, and should return the device. If you can't, that means you have had the device for a while, and were happy with it. If you charged it on a credit card, you can always dispute an return the item if there is a warranty issue.

That is what mature people do.

You are an odd duck. Obviously, between 9 and 14 years old.

Apology? I am sorry you are such an unhappy person that your only joy in life is ranting on a forum.

How did pirating enter the equation?

Keep posting; it will just keep putting tis thread to the top, and maybe someone will create a custom profile.

You may have already done this; sorry if I am repeating what you did)
You need to do the following:

-Rip DVD with AnyDVD
-Convert to the appropriate format with CloneDVDMobile

As for the profile, which one did you use? Divx? You might also try the PSP H.264 profile. Both of those work fine with WMP.

I've used the *Generic DIVX option using the 720x404 resolution. Now mind you, if you have not purchased the HD Cinema plugin then the max resolution for you will be 640x320 I believe.

I usually shoot for a Video Quality of around 22-25, Deinterlace video material option selected, at least 2 passes if not a full 3, and to make the Archos quicker on opening files I set the produce separate chapter files option to on.

Dump the videos into a single folder and you can set the Archos to play all files in the folder. Start the first video and then pull up the settings menu and change the play option from "File" to "Folder".

Missionsparta, I'm sorry to hear you had such bad luck with the Archos. However, bashing it on this forum is completely and utterly a waste of time. All you are doing is this -->

Thanks for the tips. I got it working yesterday.

No need to go 2 steps with AnyDVD first and then CloveDVD, so long as AnyDVD is loaded and shows in system tray.

I was trying one of the other Archos formats, so I stepped back to Divx at 640x320 and this works well.

Am hoping that slysoft will add support for Archos 5 & 7 in future version.

Thanks again for the tips!

I personally would love to see the H.264 encoding as one of the options for the Archos. DivX works, but H.264 is just a lot better.

I've tried several of the H.264 options but no luck. Even one of the H.264 (The PSP3 16:9 H.264 to be exact) seems to lock up the Archos when trying to play the file.

And yes, I have the HD Cinema plugin so I should have the H.264 support on the Archos.
