Default Another container with subtitle/chapter support?

Please forgive my ignorance if I've misunderstood something:

I'm muxing BDs to a single m2ts file for playback in WMP and streaming to PS3/XBOX360. Playback is fine, except for VC-1's, but as I understand it, the m2ts container by definition doesnt support subtitles, chapters, etc.

So...is there another container(mp4, mkv?) that can be used that allows for these streams, and a program that will mux them together in this container? This would, in theory, allow for subtitle/chapter support, correct?

Just looking for some information, as I'm just getting into all of this. Thanks!

.m2ts can contain PGS subtitles but not chapters. MKV will support chapters as well as subtitles will display as such on a PC with Vobsub. However you can't stream MKV to a PS3 as it doesn't recognise the format - and it won't recognise subtitles in .m2ts via streaming either.

There are several ways of doing it, burn the .m2ts as part of an AVCHD/Blu-ray and you'll get chapters and subtitles, re-encode to DivX and mux in subtitles (the only streamed subtitles the PS3 supports), re-encode the video with subtitles "baked-in" - or you could try a media streaming app such as TVersity which supports transcoding on-the-fly and is capable of streaming subtitled video.

Thanks for the help! I'm really looking to avoid transcoding though. I can live without subtitles/chapters if this format is currently the only way to get the full original quality BD streaming, but I was just wondering if there was a better way to do it. It sounds like as of right now the PS3 isn't the most robust option for streaming, but I'm guessing that's likely to gradually change, as they seem to keep adding more formats for the consoles each year or so.

On the other hand, you're saying I can mux PGS subtitle support into the m2ts files for playback on the PC, but the subtitles wont be available when streaming? This sounds like it might be worth the effort, especially if Sony adds support for it at some point. However long that may/may not be.

Follow up question:
I have several m2ts files encoded with VC-1...WMP 12 doesn't support VC-1 in m2ts. Is there a tool that would change the container to mp4? I'm assuming this would fix that problem...?
