Default What is the best Blu-ray player to buy?

I am trying to figure out what blu-ray player to buy. I will be playing blu-ray discs on it but mainly I want to play my vast collection of already copied dvds. I really don't want to buy a player and then find out that I can't watch any of my current movies.

Is there a blu-ray player that is good for watching burnt dvd's?

Also, I was wondering is there a program beside clonedvd 2 that I should be using to burn to play on blu-ray players?

Thanks alot!

any blu-ray player is backwards compatible with dvd's. Just like you can standard cd's on dvd players. There is no such thing as a "best" player. It all depends on what your requirements are for the player, budget, brand favorite, ...

For 1:1 backups simply rip to ISO and burn the iso back to disc with IMGBurn
for shrinking BD's to single layer size like cloneDVD2 does for DVD's there's 2 options

Movie only backups: Clown_BD & BD-Rebuilder
Full disc backups: BD-Rebuilder

When I go shopping for hardware Blu-ray players I look for the following:

1. Non-Cinavia player
2. Must be able to play DVD-5, DVD-9, BD-5, BD-9, BD-R as well as the default BD-ROM and DVD-ROM. Also, CD-R disks
3. Can easily update firmware to a CD-R disk so I can go forward or backward with the firmware, so if the latest firmware dumps Cinavia on the unit, I can reverse back to a previous firmware.
4. Price usually under $100.
5. Sometimes, output audio jacks to a 5.1 speaker system.
6. Would consider checking out the Blu-ray 3D players, but might be too early, might hold off for a while.
7. Would assume all Blu-ray hardware players output 1080P, to a must have HDTV at 1080P

If you know someone who lives in Japan, get a Blu-ray high definition recorder, with a Blu-ray optical drive, large hard drive with editing software, input and output jacks for high definition.

The local Walmart store had the Sony BDP-S270 Blu-ray player for $94. approximate 2 months ago.

Just could not pass them by at that price, picked up two.

i'm looking for a good blu-ray player as well, but i find oppo products are lacking in feature/performance capabilities for the money ....

for example, the BDP-93 has features i like, but it lacks Gigabit, is region locked and the wireless N adapter only works on 2.4GHz (as opposed to the less-crowded 5GHz band).

ideally i'd want a player that has these features, right now i use a PS3 to stream HD resolution mp4's. the 2 things that bug me about it is that it's got cinavia detection and the wireless is G/54Mbps, which makes playback choppy sometimes due to the bitrates i use. on a pc/laptop with an N adapter, either 2.4GHz or 5GHz, i get less/no choppy playback.
