I've recently noted that copying files from a mounted iso image located on a Samba network volume to a local Windows disk, system memory will completely fill up and will not be released until another image is mounted.
Simply dismounting the image does not help, nor does dismounting and remounting the same image. Also, I cannot reproduce the problem if the iso image is located on a local disks or a USB stick. Different iso images produce different results. For some (rld-btaa.iso) nothing odd happens; for others (rzr-ga4a.iso) memory is filled up completely but is then released when the copying process is complete. Two recent releases (rld-me3a.iso, sr-kofar.iso) that I've tested exhibit the problem described above, when all memory is allocated and not automatically freed. I'm using Windows 7 (64-bit), 8 GB RAM, Virtual CloneDrive 5.4.5.0. |

I performed the same tests with DT Lite and saw no excessive use of memory at all, so if the problem I described is due to Windows it seems to be a problem that is avoidable.

The thread http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=25373 seems to describe the same problem I'm seeing and suggests that it was never fixed.
