Default Ripping DVD bonus discs

Hi all,

I'm currently half-way through my trial of AnyDVD HD and am really pleased with it - I'll definitely be buying it soon. So far I haven't come across a DVD feature I couldn't rip with some combination of AnyDVD HD, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink.

I am however having some trouble with some bonus discs, such as for Alien Resurrection (region 2) and The Fellowship of the Ring (region 4 - though 99% of my DVDs are region 2). I've tried various settings an combinations and I'd say about 50% of the time I cannot rip the bonus DVD discs, even if I've had no trouble ripping the feature disc.

I assume this is someting to do with the file structure as I can't understand a bonus disc having stronger protection than the feature. I'm currently ripping to full-fat ISO files for my (soon to arrive) Dune media player.

Any help with this would be much appreciated!

I tried the Alien bonus disc again and it seemed to work when I ripped to image using AnyDVD, which I thought I'd tried but obviously not.

However I still can't get bonus disc from The Fellowship of the Ring to work. It's the only disc I have from Australia, so I think that's region 4? The error message stated bad sectors I think, but I've attached a log file for it. I'm going to retry a couple of the other discs that I couldn't get to work and will attached logfiles for them also if I'm unsuccessful.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

ED: I did try CloneDVD2 but it didn't work either.

ED #2: I tried the bonus disc for King Kong (2005, UK, region 2) and the specific error in AnyDVD HD was Error reading from drive D:! Sectors: 3038016-3038047. I've attached the relevant logfile.

Your log indicates there are read errors, quite a number of read errors, with the disc. More than likely the disc is defective or damaged, even if you can't see the damage.

Doubtful it would help but you could try the latest beta (7.0.4.4, located at the top of the forum) and try backing up the disc again. I don't believe it will help since there are permanent read errors. Your best bet is to try to exchange the disc. I personally would give the latest beta a shot before I went the exchange route.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot but I'm not gonna exchange the disc - it plays fine, just won't back up. Plus it's from Australia and I live in the UK; I think it was a present from a cousin in Oz, so returning it isn't an option if I wanted to.

I've just edited my previous post to include a logfile for King Kong, which I did pick up locally - any advice on that would be really appreciated

As suggested earlier, update to the latest beta and give it a try again, it probably won't help but it's always worth trying.
You could also try updating the firmware on your drive as he latest is SB07
