Default Corrupt rip of Star Wars - A New Hope (Enhanced, Widescreen)

I am using AnyDVD HD 7.0.4.5, and optionally CloneDVD2 2.9.3.0, on Windows 7 x64 with all latest updates.
I am trying to rip Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope, Enhanced Widescreen version, region 1. I have tried Episodes V and VI also and they have the same problems.
I have done "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk" by right-clicking the AnyDVD icon in the tray. I have also used CloneDVD2 "Copy DVD Titles" and I have tried ripping all 3 angles, and also just angle 1.
In all cases, the rip is corrupt. Playing the main VOB using VLC shows different problems depending on which rip method I used. Transcoding the vob to h.264 propagates the problems, so it is not just VLC. I have only looked at about the first 2 minutes of the VOB so far and seen these problems:
- most frames are blank gray frames or mix of blank gray and correct macro-blocks (8x8 or 16x16 pixel blocks I think)
- scrolling text at the beginning jumps back and forth
- scrolling text at the beginning changes back and forth to different languages
- corrupt (looping) audio after transcode to wav by ffmpeg

None of the things I've tried give a useable rip. Any advice?

That's because of the multi angles. This is perfectly normal. NEVER try to process or play .vob files directly. It doesn't work, as you just experienced.

You should give CloneDVD mobile a try, which will create remuxed .vob files (or convert it in any format you like).
