Default Haltingly playback of Blu-ray ISOs if source is USB drive

I'm having this problem repeatedly:

After grabbing a Blu-ray using AnyDVD HD to ISO, playing back this ISO file using Virtual CloneDrive and PowerDVD (11) results in haltingly playback after some thirty minutes of playing back the image.

This effect does not occur when playing back the image from one of my built-in SATA hard drives.

So I guess there is some misconfiguration in my Virtual CloneDrive setting.

Can someone please enlighten me on what to do to get a flawless playback when using Virtual CloneDrive with USB drives? (I'm using Western Digital Passport drives BTW.)

Your help is appreciated.

There's really only 1 setting that can make a difference in VCD and that's 'Buffered I/O' if you try turning that on and it still does the same thing then it's your external drive/interface that's causing the issue as you've already proven VCD works on internal drives. If Buffered I/O doesn't work then try defragmenting the external drive or running some drive tests on it to make sure it's running properly

OK, thanks Adbear, I'll try the Buffered I/O setting now.

I should say that I have seven of those USB drives. They are connected to my machine via USB 2.0. Is this protocol probably not sufficient for playing back Blu-ray movies?

I just had a look at the settings. Buffered I/O is active already.

Would it help if Virtual CloneDrive added an option to fully buffer some file types from external drives to the user's temporary folder in the background when "inserting" them, so playback would basically be performed from the internal drive?

not really as that would mean it would have to copy over the full movie file which in some cases can be as big as 40GB. If your drive is having problems keeping up then I'd look to other things causing the issue such as a badly fragmented drive.

Try to turn it off. You need to re-mount any image for this change to take effect.
