Is there an 'ISOPuzzle' for Blu-ray?

For those that don't know, isopuzzle is a DVD Application that, when reading discs it replaces bad sectors with dummy data.

For the most part it allows you to copy DVD's, even if they have manufacturing problems or scratches.

I was wondering if there was any such thing for Blu-rays, that would run over the top of AnyDVD HD? I.E anydvd would strip off the DRM, and then Isopuzzle would copy the blu-ray to file, replacing bad sectors with dummy data where applicable.

Does anyone know of such software?

There is no such thing as blu-rays don't use a DRM such as bad sector protection so there is no need to replace such things with dummy data. If you get read errors on a blu-ray (no matter how old/new the disc is), it's pretty much ALWAYS a defective disc (even if brand new).

The OP isn't trying to defeat bad-sector DRM; he's looking for a copy tool that will handle defective BDs the same way ISOPuzzle handles defective DVDs. IMO the question belongs in the High Definition Software forum as the OP is looking for third-party HD software; that's beyond the scope of AnyDVD HD itself.

Yep, spot on. I know with ISOPuzzle that I could get a DVD that would fail to copy with any ripping software (DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink/Any DVD, etc), yet using ISO Puzzle it would succeed, and not only that, when viewing the resulting MP4 file there was no noticeable issues, to the human eye anyway.

Quite simply, instead of falling over at a unreadable sector, it would put in dummy data. If you're only dealing with one or two bad sectors then the output file will be fine.

I've done a bit of searching and it seems that ISO Buster can do this, for bluray - I'll give it a go tonight.

ISOPuzzle does work on Bluray's. I've used it several times on badly scratched BR discs with great success.

Good luck. I was a bit worried because when I searched earlier, it seems ISOPuzzle hasn't been updated since 2008; it only claims to work on DVDs and data CDs. But then at filesystem level (i.e., other than DRM & file formats) BDs are somewhat similar to DVDs and data CDs, so it might just work. Let us know whether it does or not.

I should also note that the latest version of IsoBuster (3.0) claims to work with BDs; however, many of its BD features require a paid license.

I couldn't get any of the paid features of ISOBuster to work either. It would seem that there is only one sector that is unreadable on the disc, and when copying the disc to file ISOBuster detected it and skipped it. However Handbrake still fell over at exactly the same spot on the copied image, meaning I only got the first 10 minutes of the episode that I was trying to copy (Dexter Season 6 Episode 6).

I've got my fingers crossed for ISOBuzzle. If that fails then I'm just going to have to suck it up and accept I have to watch that episode off the Disc.

Hooray! Two days of effort and I've finally got handbrake to encode my Dexter Bluray to MP4, despite an unreadable sector. First of all, Tapman you're a legend, I couldn't have done this without knowing ISOPuzzle works on bluray. In fact, with my testing so far I believe that ISOPuzzle would work on any optical device, since it's doing a file based copy with no regard to the actual media type.

Anyway, here's the instructions for those that may have a similar problem with bad sectors:

1) Download ISO Puzzle. It's free, and it's a standalone executable that doesn't require installation. It also requires an additional dll file (that needs to be downloaded separately) to be put into the same folder as the executable, however most download sites provide a link to the dll as well.

2) Put your disc into your optical drive. ISO Puzzle doesn't work on protected media, so you still need AnyDVD to work its magic

3) Use ISOPuzzle to create an ISO of the disc. It will copy as much information as it possibly can into the ISO, and at the very least you should end up with an image that will no longer fall over at the spot where the bad sector(s) is/are.

Once this step is done, you can remove your bluray from your drive.

4) Mount the iso using any iso tool. I used Slysofts Virtual CloneDrive (which is free), however Daemon Tools is another alternative

5) You should now be able to point Handbrake (or which ever tool you choose) to the virtual mounted drive and encode the show that previously wouldn't complete.

It worked for me, and fast forwarding through the episode (I'm not ready to watch it in it's entirety yet, since I'm not up to that episode) it looks fine. Mileage may vary.
