Default Replacement for DVD Shrink?

I've used DVD Shrink for years and never had any problems...until recently. About a week ago, DVD Shrink began slowing down horribly, if not failing, altogether.

I've researched the problem on the web and tried several attempts to fix the problem but to no avail.

So, I'm finished with it. Anybody have any suggestions on software that I can replace DVD Shrink with, preferably free or inexpensive?

If DVD Shrink doesn't work on the fly you have to use AnyDVD Ripper to "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk" first,
then open the AnyDVD output in DVD Shrink. Takes a bit longer, but should work that way.

I should have explained. I use AnyDVD to rip movies to the HDD, DVD Shrink to resize it and IMGBURN to burn it.

For some reason (the IT guy at work thinks it's a problem with Windows Update but I don't think so) DVD Shrink has slowed down considerably.

As a matter of fact, when I burn it, IMGBurn is also affected. The buffer (both memory and device buffer) drop and I get an error in the console that says, "waiting for buffer to recover". However, the buffer usually recovers and the movie plays normally in my DVD player, with no skips or pauses and with no problems, whatsoever.

I've read several forums that mention the problem and most of them were posted way back in 2005, so that's why I don't think it was due to a Windows Update. Like I said before, I've used all these programs for quite some time and I've never had a problem. It suddenly happened, actually, now that I think of it, during the derecho on June 29th. I was resizing the movie, "Contraband" when I noticed it. While it was taking forever for DVD Shrink to resize it, the power went off and all hell broke loose. But that's another story...

I do appreciate the help. The people here are extremely wise and considerate and the software is top-notch, which is why I will download the trial version of CloneDVD 2 and see if that works better.

One question about Clone DVD, though, will I be able to cut out the movie's end credits? If so, will I be able to select and delete segments...in other words, I'd like to cut out the credits on all the Marvel movies like Ironman and Thor and Captain America, but keep the footage that runs after the credits.

I think you should be able to as you can selected and remove certain features in CloneDVD but I usually just keep everything in place when I backup the dvd. But you can give it a try but remember after 21 day trial if you try to install another version it will detect the expired trial and not install but will ask you to buy the software FYI. But I've used Clonedvd not cutting and selecting out scene to backup and it works well with Anydvd HD.

CloneDVD has a crude, VERY crude, editing feature on video streams. You can only clip from the front and/or end of a selected stream based on chapter stops. Removing a segment in the middle of the video stream AFAIK is not possible.

To be a lot more selective about being able to clip video stream you can use the freeware VobBlanker. There are a couple of very annoying restrictions when using VobBlanker:
  • AnyDVD can not be running, even disabled, when you start VobBlanker
  • VobBlanker will not process correctly a DVD that has multi-angles; don't even try, the output will be totally hosed

Best thing I can suggest is download VobBlanker and give it a try. You already get the proper output from AnyDVD (Rip to HD files/folders) to plug into VobBlanker.
