@docjames
No matter whether it's a controller issue or something else: your log shows your system has the often problematic PxHelp64 lower filter driver.
Use ImgBurn's Filter Driver Load Order tool to remove that one and reboot.
If that doesn't help maybe also the upper filter SiRemFil (Filter driver for Silicon Image SATALink controllers).

P.S. regarding DVD Shrink: strange boot time problem with DVD Shrink as it doesn't install system files
Some systems have problems to start Shrink (link), but that doesn't explain the boot time.

There were times when AnyDVD was having trouble with filters like this but those days are long over. In fact the sticky about this kind of thing is long gone.

It is not certain that PxHelp64 is negatively affecting anything and for sure if the customer deletes his SiRemFil driver and is indeed usíng that hardware he will turn his machine into a potato.

Personally, in 5 years+ I have never seen failure to Write or early Write termination to be caused by either of those elements.

The SiRemFil driver sits in the optical drive stack, removing it won't potato anything. It is a quite old version (2007), so it may indeed cause trouble.

EDIT:
With removing it, I mean removing it with ImgBirn, *not* deleting it.

Default Update on burning issue & VIRUSES

AdBear:

Thank you for the help, but we were all barking up the wrong tree!
I discovered the problem, and I am rather disappointed in myself for not thinking of this before. I had downloaded imgburn and DVDshrink from websites that in retrospect were laden with spyware and trojans. Norton Antivirus did not pick up the trojan for several weeks, and it was imbedded in the slysoft programming! It was dvdburning_1810.exe, Trojan.ADH.2. However, successful removal still did not repair the burning problem I had. I went downloaded Spy-Bot and found a spyware W3i.IQ5.fraud and removed this, and now EVERYTHING WORKS FINE!!!

I just wanted to update you, and ask if you can recommend a SAFE website to download img.burn and DVDshrink?

Thank you again for your assistance.

There is also a patched DVD Shrink executable that adds the ability to create an image file and then automatically burns that image with Imgburn. I have that patched exe and it works great.

Do a search for something like "dvd shrink imgburn" and you should get a list of SAFE sites to get the file from.

I really do appreciate the discussion, but I am perplexed now. I got rid of the offensive viruses, and reinstalled Any DVD, CloneDVD, but the problem is back. I managed to copy about 5 DVDs before the same problem returned. Early termination of the burn to disc. and again, after it stops burning, my comptuer can not find the optical drive - like it disappeared. Rebooting results in the drive being found again, but running the program causes the early termination again. I tried searching for anything "slysoft" and deleting it, before reinstalling the software, but it still doesn't work.

Now what do I do?

Thanks for the suggestions thus far!

Also did you remember to install all the drivers for the motherboard and make sure the optical drive is connected to the right socket (if it's an Intel CPU the you want to put it on the Intel controller in a SATA II socket)
I have pretty much the same problem. I changed from a 3.4 Intel single core to the Asus Sabertooth Z77 with intel quad core 3.6gb.

I have been using Sony DVD+R disks and had very few bad ones and now I have many more. I have a new install of Windows 7 Ultra and all other programs are working fine.
